Savage 219 in 32-20 or 25-20
« on: August 16, 2009, 03:56:19 PM »
I have a collection of Savage 219 - 220s. I have all of the shotguns including the 28 gauge. I have 30-30 and hornet but have never seen a 32-20 or 25-20. Does anyone know of one? I started on these when they were real inexpensive and have had fun with them. Shotgunner

I have been to the shows, and to the shops. I have looked on line. I have found most of the 219s and 220s at auctions, but have never come across a 32-20, anywhere. Shotgunner

I ran across a 25-20 and had thought I found a gold mine until I realized that the 25-20 was rechambered to 25-35. The 25-20's and 32-20's are extremely rare because of the Model 23 being a better choice back then for the money. Now I have owned both the 25-20 and the 32-20 in the Model 23 but due to corrosive ammunition back in the day, they both had bad throat pitting.

Yes, I bought the 219 chambered in 25-35 with a 20 gauge Model 220 barrel all for $150. When I finally decided to sell it, back when ebay allowed barrels and such, I darn near trippled my money.

Howdy
Dug up this old thread and Love the 219's and 220's myself. Shwon is a first Year 1937 220 Trap Gun that used to belong to my Grandfather. I have only seen One other one like it and it was in 20 Gauge. This one is in 12. He hunted Deer hard with it for almost 30 Years then took it to a Gun smith show reblued the barrel and ruined the gorgeous case colored reciever. It has the Grouse in Flight scene on both side of the reciever, Like the semi auto deluxe shot guns had. It also had a checkerd stock and fore end. The stock is a Monte-Carlo design and the fore end is a beaver tail design. It has a Large Ivory bead front sight like they used on The Semi-Autos as well. I was told these Guns were Offered by Stevens as a Deluxe Trap model but did not sell well, so the first year for the model 220's Savage used up existing supplies of the Deluxe Trap gun parts. My Grandfather ordered it from the Montgomery Wards catalog for $16.15 Back in 1937.

He is shown with it and a buck he Killed with it that made the Boone & Crockett award.
It is also shown with my Savage 219 in 30-30 and a nice PreWar .22 Hornet 219. I have Read they made very few Pre-War 22 Hornet rifles but after the War they made them a standard catalog item, so this one was a real catch. I Gave $200.00 for it and it is scary accurate.. I have a 16 gauge that has the same stock configuration and the same engraving. I bought 3 more 219s-220s at an auction last month. I need to sort out what to keep and what to sell. I got a 30-30, a 20 ga and a 12. One has a nice Montie Carlo stock. I think I have 3 or 4 30-30 barrels. Still looking for a 32-20. Shotgunner
