If it had to be a bottle neck in a lever gun make me 336 in a 25 caliber round that gave 250 savage ballistics out of a nice little 18 inch carbine. Preferably with an oct barrel but id settle for something on the lines of a guide gun. Make it blued and with real walnut as thats the way every lever should be made.

For my first post here I couldn't help but respond to you. As we speak, Harry McGowen is building me a Marlin 336 in my wildcat, the .250 Banshee. It is the .25-35 Winchester with the shoulder pushed forward to make a neck .264" long. It will have a 40 degree shoulder angle and minimal body taper. I expect to get at least .250 Savage ballistics out of her. She sounds like she's just what you're asking for, except that mine will have a 20.5" round barrel.

As for my vote in the poll, I'd say I'd like to see a Marlin in .308.

As others have mentioned I would like to see the old 250 Savage and/or the 25-35 Win brought back to life and I'd buy either one of those in a heart beat, but I'd settle for the 243 Win.

Not interested in rounds listed in a lever gun but would like to see the .260 REM and .338 FED in bottle neck rounds.

I'm with several of the others wanting the .357 Max and I would also like to see a lever gun in the .460 S&W (nice big brother to my .45 Colt Winchester Trapper and "twin" to my M1895G.  Talk about a pig killing arsonal.

In addition to what you listed, I'd like a .357 Max and a .327 Federal.

Marlin already has the 308 Marlin Express.....which I think is the "happy medium" between the 308 Winchester and the 30-06. So, IMHO, I doubt if we would see a Marlin in the 308 Winchester or the 30-06. But.....it never hurts to ask!!

And I second, or maybe third the idea of having one chambered in 357 Maximum. Just an awesome straight wall round and with a boat load of bullet choices in lead and jacketed. That would be one for the gun safe for sure!!!

I dont need a .308 or.30-06, but I think I'd go with a .357 Max and .445 super.  I almost bought the .357 levergun when they first came out in the early 60s, but I was a poor seaman in the Navy at the time.  I was in ordnance and had unlimited access to .38 ammo.  It would have been nice.

where's the poll ??????  i went to marlin's site and don't find any poll to vote on ?????

i'de also like to see the .348 win. or .35 whelen in it , and of course .358 win. as well
but , to be truthfull , i think some more of the classic cartridges should be brought back
into production every now and then.  like .32/40 .25/35 win. .25/36 marlin etc...

Browning BLR in .270 -- just wish Browning can get a better trigger!

I wish the same for:

Marlin
T\C Contender
T\C Encore
Stevens
Ruger
(Insert more names here)

But I really wish the Brownings were made here in the U.S.A. They are fine products. Instead of offering tax incentives to Browning, we should offer permanent green cards to the craftsmen at Browning, and free shipping of their equipment.

Hey.....it would establish a long term manufacturer here in the US. And employees retire, jobs turn over, spin off into the local economy. Gotta be better than what Pa. did for VW or Sony.

Just thinkin outloud again........

Got it, not on current pattern lever actions.  IIRC the only two successful lever action designs that chamber conventional high pressure spire point bullets are the Winchester 1995 and the Browning BLR.  I prefer the looks of the Browning.  I am curious as to the design of what may be in the works as the possibilities of a lever gun capable of shooting high pressure loads shooting spire point bullets w/o using LE type bullets sounds neat but will the ascetics be such that the traditionalist will accept them, will the triggers be usable, will box magazines (if used) hold more then 3 rounds…?

Let’s not forget that Marlin just gave us the .308 ME, .338 ME which nearly duplicate the existing rounds while working in the tubular magazines of the Marlins causing me to wonder about duplication of effort.

Hope my rambling made since.

I voted yes w/qualifications as follows:

.223, .243, .308, .454 from list provided.

What I would really like to see is .260 Rem, 7mm-08, .338 Fed, .460 S&W, and .25-06 Rem.

Got a Winchester 88 in .308 which has always done its job without any fuss.  Trigger isn't the greatest, but it'll do.

I have wondered if there were some way for Marlin to change the tube feed for a box magazine.  The .308 and its derivatives are short enough to work.  I would love to see a Marlin in .358 Winchester!  If the Brownings were't so ugly, I would go for one of those.

Otherwise, my .30-30 Marlin with the 24" octagonal barrel will have to do!

wh, that's my present quandry. I'd like a marlin action with a 500 yd reach (not lobbing 45-70s in indirect fire either). And, I'd like it in a caliber you don't have to order or buy from a boutique. I may be asking alot I know.

338 Marlin Express    200 gr., .430 B.C.   www.hornady.com
Range (yards)   Muzzle   50   100   200   300   400   500
Velocity (fps)   2300   2205   2112   1933   1764   1606   1462
Energy (ft.-lb.)   2349   2159   1981   1660   1382   1146   949
Trajectory (200 yd. zero)   -1.5   1.7   3.2   0.0   -12.5   -36.2   -73.4
Come Up in MOA   -1.5   -3.3   -3.0   0.0   4.0   8.6   14.0

If you can follow the above chart.....(It's from the Hornady web site)..... this is the ballistics of the 338 Marlin Express @ a MV of 2300fps. The maximum fps is listed at 2400fps.

At 500 yards, it shows a 74" drop, but it still has 950 ft\lbs of energy.

Tim all those are great cartridges in their own right and application ...

But with out a doubt i will have a 454 Casull lever action ... And would much rather it be american made marlin then an offshore outfit.. And i would be as much so if not more interested in a Marlin chambered for the 460 smith

Though i have to echo anothers point , Keep it reasonably priced ... None of this $700 - 800 Marlins.

I would rather have a .357 Max.  It would work great for Indiana deer hunting now that rifles with pistol type calibers are allowed.  I still favor rimmed cartridges for lever actions - just call me old fashioned.  I would also like to see the 25-20/32-20 brought back. While I'm at it, a 480 Ruger is very appealing.    Also, Marlin needs to twist the 44 mag. faster to stabilize the 270 and 300 grain bullets better.

I second Mcwoodduck for the Win. 1895 in shorter (perhaps redesigned) 308/243 length action.
This also fits the tubeless magazine criteria (read pointy bullets).

Since this is a Rem/Marlin question, prefer Remington to use their own Green-Box family of 0.473-inch 'rim' cartridges: 22-250, 6mm/244, 25 Bob, 260 and 7mm-08.

But none of those are on Remington answers list ???? - Maybe then start with 308 and then Re-barrel to get Rem cartridges?

How about a Side-Eject Win. 1895 :).
