44 Mag Handi!!
« on: August 09, 2009, 04:08:38 PM »
Buddy and I bought 44 mag handi's for 2008 season.  I loaded 220grn Seirra Tournament Master Flat Point jacketed bullets over 25.8 grns of H110 for about 1850 fps.  We both are getting 100yd groups below 1.25" with lots of penetration power.  He killed the yote at about 0730, 60 yrds away and the buck at 40.  Hit the right ham, shatted the femor went the length of the deer, broke the off going shoulder and lodged under the hide.  Everyone teased us about single shot rifles until they seen the results.

Welcome to GBO. You are on your way to being a Handiholic. It starts innocently enough. First you buy one to save a little money. Then you need another for another purpose, then you have to start telling your wife tall stories about getting another. The first thing you know you can't go in a gun store with out looking at Handi's and having some follow you home.

Nice shooting -nice looking deer too.

Good Luck and Good Shooting

1'st I don't understand, I didn't start a new thread, I don't understand how it ended up in it's own thread.  I put a reply on the thread about pics of handi rifles, somehow I must of messed it up.  They were the only pictures of Handi Rifles that I had, I thought they were different than the pictures already posted. In Indiana they came out with a new law a couple of years back that allows rifles chambered in pistol cartridges.  We have both killed quite a few deer with 12ga slug guns of different varieties and wanted to do something different.  We were able to take 4 shots last year and made 4 good kills including the yote and a doe at 40yds through the head while she was looking from around a tree.

Still think the pictures make the difference!

You didn't really mess up, the thread you posted in is a FAQs and Help link for pics of H&R firearms, your thread is about hunting with them and deserves it's own thread, you can still post pics in that thread if you like, but this hunting story should stand alone here instead.  ;)

Keg hasn't been here since August 10th.  ??? But to answer your question, yes, the rifle in the pics has the new checkered stock which only comes on the SB1 357mag and 44mag and their combos.

They seem like real nice rifles! I want one!
When an Army captain asked him for the direction of the line of retreat, Col Puller called his Tank Commander, gave them the Army position, and ordered: "If they start to pull back from that line, even one foot, I want you to open fire on them."
Turning to the captain, he replied "Does that answer your question?
We're here to fight."

My 44 magnum Handi has one big problem, every time I take it out I shoot practically every loaded round I have on hand.  Good thing I started shooting cast semi wadcutters.  I burned thru 3 boxes of 240 gr. XTP's in no time. I have even shot my backlog of 250 gr. Keith 250 grain Semi wadcuters down to the last 25.  Going to have to start casting preety soon.

Yeah I like the looks of them too. I'm more of a rifle shooter and really like pistol calibers in my rifles. For the price it seems like a great way to get a 357 and 44. If someone would make a bolt 357 I would be good to go. I know Ruger make a bolt 44, but that is a little rich for my blood right now.
