Getting ready for the Cannon shoot.
« on: August 02, 2009, 06:06:45 PM »
Wow an new record!! Summer has lasted two weeks going into the third, I have never seen it last this long before...If I wanted to be hot all the time I would retired to Arizona.

Been getting ready for next weekends cannon shoot. Filled half a case of diet pepsi cans with cement.  Finished up building Southpaws golf ball mortar.  I will paint all the metal work tomorrow.  Since this replicates a Confederate Coehorn I am going to use linseed oil for the base, just as the Reb's did.

I'll post a picture when its finished!

I am also making some quill for this gun.

If any of you are planning to come to our shoot, we will have guns for sale from GBO Sponsors Brooks USA and Armorer77.  Brooks make small brass cannons, specializing in fire cracker cannons and other small cannon.  Armor77 makes guns that shoot golf balls.

Double D, I would love to be there for the shoot but the time+distance+money thing always rears it's ugly head.

I really do enjoy sighting my eye across the bore and down to the target pictured in your Avator if this counts for anything. It brings an article that I had read several years ago to mind. Seems like they had a thin stripe of paint on the top center of the barrel and then used a plumb bob of sorts to align the thing. I dont know how elevation was controlled or if the plumb bob necessairly had to be attached to the cannon.
You might enlighten me (or us) if you have ever heard of such a thing. Thanks
