Barrel Accessory Program...how's it working these days?
« on: July 29, 2009, 05:30:50 AM »
I have been wondering how the barrel accessory program is working these days.  I'm considering having a 30-30 barrel fitted and even though there is a sticky on Ilion satisfaction, I tend to think that we mostly hear about the bad things and not the good.  So, I was just wondering how many people have had barrels fitted recently and what the average turnaround has been.

If this question has been addressed already and I've missed it, please post the link.

Most, if not all Ilion reports are in that thread, you'll be hard pressed to get any more reports than what's there, I try to get everyone to report there, that's why it's there.  ;)

The effective price of barrels seems to be creeping up and the price of used guns seems to be creeping down.

I had the feeling that what's being posted is all there is but sometimes when one has the opportunity to report things, a lot of times we only report the bad ones....that's why I had asked.  For example, the "how's my driving" stickers on the back of trucks.  Does anyone actually call in on a GOOD driver?  ;)

As always, thanks Tim!

I make sure ALL of the good ones get in there, if I didn't move it there, I post a link to it.  ;D  ;) See the latest one posted by tmccray45, two back to back no less!! For the most part, it just depends if they have your barrel in stock, that's been the biggest headache. When they get the hammer forge barrel facility online it should improve, right now Marlin is supplying the barrels for H&R plus their own firearms.

I assume 30-30 barrels are probably the most sought after..???...so accordingly, it might take a long time to have one of those fitted.  ???  What's your take on that Tim?  Do you have any idea when the hammer forge facility might be online?  Have you heard any info or rumor about that at all?

Sorry for all the questions....but then again, you always seem to have so many of the answers.  ;)

Thanks!

Hammer forge facility is being built, dunno when it will be online, I'll post when production starts and what barrels will be made. Call H&R and ask about 30-30 barrel availability, even if they're available now doesn't mean they will be when they get to your frame tho, they're first come, first serve.

I had already thought about calling them prior to sending off my frame etc.  That's what I'll do and then hope that I don't have to wait 5 months.

I sent my receiver in to Ilion N.Y. on the 1st. of Sept. 2008 and I got it and the new barrel back in about a month. It is intresting to note that the barrel had a Rem. proof mark on it instead of the H&R mark.

Not surprising a bit since Remington owns H&R, the H&R plant is at Ilion's Remington facility, check the repair facility address for H&R and Remington, they're both 14 Hoefler Avenue, Ilion, NY  13357, parts I've received come in Remington boxes.

Blackhawker,

The program appears to be a crap shoot.  I sent my receiver to H&R in late June for a 22-250 barrel.  I called ahead of time and it was available, but when they got to my order it was not.  They got to my order in about a week so that is good, but they still do not know when a barrel will be available.  As a matter of fact, they were due in late August but did not show up.

I think you can expect a really good return time if they have the barrel, but if they do not, who knows?  As of Friday August 11, they had no clue when the 22-250 will be available.

Good luck,
Clayton
