Another Handiholic??
« on: July 19, 2009, 04:58:14 AM »
My buddy and Neighbor, Charlie's house burned down July 5th.  I've been helping him get water and electric restored for the travel trailer he bought for temporary housing.  His 10 or twelve guns were mostly lost or damaged in the fire.  I figured that after two weeks of anguish, he might be ready for a little fun, so I put the .357 Max in the car trunk and went over there.  We worked a while, and then took a break.  I hauled out the Handi, and said, "Here, try this".  I started him on .38s, then Mags and then Maxis.  I thought he was going to wet his pants :o  He loved it.  I'm going to talk it around with some of our friends and see if we can put one together for him before November.

He's into single shots, having had a trapdoor .45-70, a couple of muzzleloaders, single shot .22 magnum and 20 ga.  I think he's a prime candidate for infection with the disease. ;)

Thanks guys, it really is terrible to loose everything in your home.  The Max may just put a glimmer of light in the gloom.

Marv, I had the same thing happen a couple of years ago.  I have an old widow b--ch living a quarter mile down the road.  I had two rifles to resight for longer range and went out one summer morning at about 6:30 before the wind got up.  It had been light for over an hour.  I saw a sheriffs deputy pull in her driveway and then come over here.  He turned out to be a friend and neighbor, so I said "Good morning Daryl, come in for a cup of coffee."  I was shooting an hour after sunrise, on a safe range, on my own property.  We had our coffee, gabbed about other things, and he left saying "Thanks for the coffee and the visit.  I'm sorry, but we have to respond to complaints".  He went back over to her house and I was never bothered again.

Hope no one got hurt, fires are the worse.
The UP is a great place to live, at least when I was a kid.
Is Charlie going to re-Build?
As everyone else is saying, "You are a good man Pete".
If you and Charlie's other friends need any help putting that Handi together, let me know.

Well thanks Mike, I guess as ya get older ya kinda learn to do the right thing the first time around.....It's easier that way......in the long run.  Good friends and good neighbors don't happen together often, and when they do it is special.  No, thank God everyone got out o.k.
Charlie and Sweet Pea (Charlotte) are going to rebuild.  I'm glad.  Charlie's in his 70's and I didn't know if they would.

Thanks for your offer to help with the rifle.  I'll keep you guys posted if we need anything.  My Max has proven the Mag to be redundant, so I may have that reamed to Max and start there.
