about to take the plunge
« on: July 17, 2009, 12:18:27 AM »

I've been a wheelgunner all my life. I qualified master the whole time was was a LEO with either a .357 or .41 mag. That was in another life. I keep looking at these Glocks and it seems they're the real thing. I figured I'd start basic. The question is, 26 or 27? It will replace my S&W 640 as my CCW. So basically I guess it boils down to 9MM  or .40 Short & Weak? I will eventually end up with full sized pieces in the same caliber. I know the .40 is catching on big time in LEO circles but are there many after action reports to be able to tell how it actually works on the job?

How many times has this question been brought up? Well one more time now I guess,

It would be nice for you, if you found another shooter who owned the G26/27.  As you will find that your small pinky finger will hang under the grip unless you have an extension for it.  I had a G27, and enjoyed it very much and regret ever selling it off for something else.  I found it to be quite accurate, if I did my job.  Keep searching you will find stats for officer involved shootings with the 40 S&W, and I don't think you will be disappointed.  The G27 was my BUG, as I carried the G22 on duty myself.

There really is nothing wrong with the .40 S&W, as shot placement is everything.

So, Rusty, you think the Glock might be the real thing, and the .40 S&W might catch on?  :)  Must be the 90s all over again! ;D
Seriously, if you currently carry a 640 with .357 loads, the recoil of the mdl 27 will be no problem at all! It took me a lot of years to warm to the Glock, and even more to accept the .40. Lately I have grown quite fond of the .40 and shoot mine frequently in IDPA and maybe USPSA now and then. If you reload, ammo cost between the 9mm and .40 is pretty much even using cast bullets. I'm a big fan of the SWC bullet profile available in the .40 cal. 175/180gr range. Personally, I prefer the  mdl 23/19 over the 26/27. Just seems like the perfect size to me. If you use the grip extensions on the 26/27 the grip ends up being about the same bulk as the 23/19. I'd suggest you get your hands on both sizes and decide for yourself. Either way, you can't go wrong with a Glock!
Have fun deciding!
