16 gauge slug availabilty?
« on: July 14, 2009, 01:42:10 PM »
Saw a Mossberg 190 slug gun today. 2 in the mag and one in the chamber bolt action. Nice shape and all there. Shockingly light and well balanced. Sexy ported barrel.  No weird choke device. Iron sights. Priced right. Not even the store selling it thought much of 16 gauge slugs though.

If you load your own, Lightfield IDS are in 16 ga.
RIP Mike. Died on July 14th, around 2am, with his family at his side, he went peacefully to be with god.

I have not had any problems getting 16ga slugs, even recently. I particularly like Brenneke and Winchester, which my two shotguns shoot well. Although the Brenneke's are a little harder to find, they are available "online".  Winchester, Remington, and Federals can usually be had at gun shows or "hardware" stores, rather than "gun stores" where many have "abandoned" the 16ga.

I think if I'd seen it and the price was reasonable it would have followed me home.
PROUD REDNECK CONSERVATIVE

I'd much rather be remembered for being a great shot than having the most expensive gun

I saw Midway has the Brennekee in 16ga I would think they would work very well in your gun they shoot great out of just about anything. If you want to load your own BPI has the Dangerous game 16ga slugs. Kurt

16 ga slugs are fine ,and will stop anything a 12 or 20 will. The fact that the sales person selling it "didn't think much of 16 ga slugs " just tells me that he doesn't think much about anything.

I use Remington brand slugs in my 16ga., the reason is, they chronograph close to 100 fps "higher" than Winchester slugs do...  I do have some Brennekee slugs, but i haven't chrono'd them yet.
