Which would you buy?

Savage model 10 fxp 22-250
or Savage model 12 bvt 223

A friend asked me and I'm not familiar with either.

I just picked up a model 12fv in 22-250.  it's a tack driver, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good 22-250.

It would depend if I wanted to shoot cheap or shoot far.  What he will use if for will decide on what he buys.  Larry

Either will be accurate. Pick by case. One shoots 100 - 150 yards farther than the other, but costs more to do so.

Thanks for the replys, Yea all i could tell him was my knowledge of the calibers and their ballistics. Pretty much what has been said, Personally I'd go for the 223 due to the fact that its cheaper  and easier to get. Its gonna be a varmit shooter, the 22 250  is obviously the better round for distance but  the 223 is plenty for me personally

comes down to personal preference and what distance the shots will be I suppose

Couldn't agree with you more Oldshooter. I just love my .223. Nothing in the world wrong with a 22-250, but I've just grown attached to the good old .223.

The plastic tipped bullets have stretched the effective range of the .223 out to near the range of a .22-250. Therefore, I recommend the .223. Where the .22-250 has the advantage is farther than most folks can shoot. And don't forget the difference in cost and availability of ammo- the .223 has a big advantage there.
