Savage 110 E info please
« on: July 06, 2009, 08:09:53 AM »
I see an add for a 110 E and was wondering what this rifle would look like .
I assume it would have a wood stock and would be in the blue  pre Acc. trigger , but do not know what the code E is for . Would it have a bling magazine or would they dump out of the bottom   I would need to travel some distange to see the gun and was wondering before going .
Thanking you in advance

I did a Google on that just for kicks. Found a reliable source and here is what it said:

The “E” in your model number just indicates a certain combination of options in that model. Mechanically, it should be pretty much the same as any other 110 (except for small changes they made over the years).

My Blue Book says the 110-E included open sights, uncheckered wood stock, and a non-removable blind magazine. Says it was built 1963-1988.

Happy   Dave told you right about the mod "E". It stands for ECONOMY. The mod E had a cheaper stock and a cheaper trigger plus had a mauser style magazine.[ Blind mag]  It also is one of my best shooters. I restocked it with a Boyds thumbhole, laminated stock and a new rifle basic trigger. It is one of my favorite shooters.I have a 5 shot target on my wall that can be covered with a nickel. 100 yds.  Even if the barrel is bad,[which i doubt] it can be eaisly changed by you or your gunsmith. You will enjoy the rifle. Go ahead and get it. It's only money and life is so unpredictable.

Thanks for the time to reply . I did not find the "e" code at Savage and wondered if it was not a misprint and should be "F"

Coming in at $ 399. Canadain is abit much . By the time  you paid for the trigger work ETc , one might just well look at Marlins XR7.
Then again with a new barrel and laminated stock one would have a nice unit . Is it not

Happy   Stick with the Savage. You will be alot HAPPIER [no pun intended] with it. The trigger I spoke of is the RIFLE BASIX for around $60 to 70 dollars from E A Brown co. It is an easy installation, and comes with complete instructions. If you are unhappy with the stock there are numerous types available from 80 dollars up to what ever you desire. I also have a Stevens mod. 110 E in 30 06 cal. It came with the synthetic black stock and is an excellent shooter. I adjusted the factory trigger on this one and used J B weld to bed the recoil lug. I don't know if you noticed but I like the 110 rifles. I have a couple of 06's, 3  270's a 243 Model 200 Stevens and a 308. BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK, with the exception of my Handies. You will be very pleased with the Savage.

Happy, I'm unsure of 'normal' Canadian prices for rifles.  If that was an American price I say this:

If you want that exact rifle, as it sits, then probably buy it.  If you want a rifle from which to start a project (replace stock, replace trigger, possibly replace other parts), then that's WAAAY too expensive.  Marlin's off-the-shelf Savage-copy is just over $300 with an Accu-trigger-type trigger, and Stevens rifles are under $300, at least around here.

Again, though, if that rifle is what you want as it sits, go for it.

I have 3 Saveges and 1 Stevens and will give $ 200 US for any old beat up 110 Savage just to get the actions. You can change the barrel and bolt face yourself so they are the ideal action for a swich barrel gun. I have 1 I built up in .22-6mm and shot a 2 in., 3 shot group at 600 yrds. with. BUT, I have about $ 900 in the gun and another $ 1,000 in the scope.

I built a Savage in 6.5 Swede last year. Here were my cost:
$310   Savage Action
$130   Savage Stock
$280   Shilen Barrel

Total for the Rifle $720.

Then I put a Leupold 4-12 Rifleman scope on it that cost me $300. So the "grand total" was $1,020. Now, that's darn cheap for an all stainless rifle, even though it's a single shot bolt action. But it has a "custom" Shilen barrel on it. And it shoots like it has a custom barrel on it.

The action is a Model 12 Savage. And for the money, you can't buy a factory model 12 for much less...and that's with a factory barrel.

Price quoted were in Canadain dollars which now is there  about .85 cents depending on the day .

You guys do have it made when it comes to custom work  . you can buy parts change barrels and stocks Etc. because it is all made for you in the states . How ever we need to have it all shipped ( if allowed ) ( if too Allowed to ship out of the USA) . Then there is duty, mark up for the dealer who ordered it and so on .
So it is not as easy for a Canadian to do .
I onced ordered a can of Wipe Out  directly from the states . Delivered to my door, was something in the nature of $80.00 Canadain .  So we need to go through dealers who in turn are required to make a least a 200 -300 dollar order to get a shipment . Then we might have it at a reasable price , but then wait a half a year to get it .
I once wanted to rebarrel a P17 . Price of a new barrel would have been in about four to four and a half hundred installed . So if I had bought the rifle as is for three , it sure adds up quick.
A mauser redone would in most cases cost more than a new rifle . And we looking at $800.00 and up where a stevens would be under 4 to 5 hundred  out of a box with nothing else.
So now you have some idea where we are coming from . Why we research used guns . You can quickly loose your shirit
So we limit ourselves to maybe some trigger work when buying off the rack, unless it is something special , and money spent would be an investment.
