Ron Paul Wins Support to Audit Fed Reserve
« on: June 30, 2009, 10:07:33 AM »
All of a sudden, Congress is paying close attention to Ron Paul.

The feisty congressman from Texas, whose insurgent "Ron Paul Revolution" presidential campaign rankled Republican leaders last year, now has the GOP House leadership on his side -- backing a measure that generated paltry support when he first introduced it 26 years ago.

Paul, as of Tuesday, has won 245 co-sponsors to a bill that would require a full-fledged audit of the Federal Reserve by the end of 2010.

Paul attracted just 18 co-sponsors when he authored a similar bill, which died, in 1983. While the impact Fed policies have on inflation is once again a concern, fears about loose monetary policy and excessive federal spending appear even more widespread in 2009.

"In the past, I never got much support, but I think it's the financial crisis obviously that's drawing so much attention to it, and people want to know more about the Federal Reserve," Paul told FOXNews.com.

With the Federal Reserve holding interest rates at rock-bottom levels, pumping trillions into the economy and now poised to have new powers to oversee the financial system under President Obama's proposed regulatory overhaul, Paul said lawmakers want transparency.

"If they give them a lot more power and there's no more transparency, that'll be a disaster," he said.

I'd be carefull about this if I was Ron Paul.
Still I'm all for him, I hope he can do it.
I don't think he's got a cut dog's chance though.

Paul is a TRUE PATRIOT. He is most certainly aware of the RISK of speaking the truth in this day and time. He is I would guess, PREPARED TO PAY THE PRICE. The question IS: ARE WE?

I think we are going to pay the price regardless of what happens. As it stands now we are going to be taxed to death. It's time the people take a stand and speak out about our economy and government. Ron Paul may just be the man with the voice of the people.

He hasn't had the voice so far. Most on this website didn't think him FLASHY enough to vote for him. They prefered McCain. Too little too late I think. :(

There is so much corruption now, and very few trying to expose it. I give Paul a lot of credit for fighting the right battle.

During the early 1930s in the Roosevelt depression, a journalist (from NY Times, I believe) won a Pulitzer prize for exposing the corruption and waste of the AAA, NRA, and WPA (agricultural paying farmers not to farm, price controls, government spending on roads etc., respectively). That isn't going to happen now, although media like the internet and talk radio are getting the message out to a narrower audience.

We really need people like Paul raising heck to expose the corruption to the wider national audience.

I hope this initiative picks up speed and goes through.  The Federal Reserve and Treasury have to be cleaned out.  Check that, Washington needs to be cleaned out!

I believe if Ron Paul started rallying supporters now for 2012; then he would stand a better chance.  He fell short, not because he lacked flash, but because he lacked leadership.  He had great ideas, but didn't come accross as someone that could take charge.  If he can push this audit through; then he will show the leadership to guide the rest of the idiots in Congress to finally stand up and do the right thing.

Nothing is going to happen. Hell you can't even fire a congress person if they get caught with their hand in the cookie jar.ala Conyers,Jefferson,Boxer. Look at all the nominees for cabinet position with tax issues. Now you can add Al Franken to that one. If it was you or me the feds would have us in jail. Washington protects it's own

Good for Ron Paul!  He is indeed a patriot and a fellow military veteran of the same time period.  I didn't agree with his position on every issue during the primaries ("FLASHY" or not means nothing to me - that is absurd) but support him whole-heartedly in this effort.  We need more auditing and accountability.
