OTC deer tags???
« on: June 28, 2009, 10:13:33 PM »
Hello everyone,
I grew up in Belvidere(N.IL), but now live in Belleville(SW.IL). Is there any truth to the rumor that we can buy over-the-counter deer gun tags this year(2009)?  If not, when will they smarten-up and start?  Even better yet, when will they allow us to use pistol caliber carbines like Indiana residents?

Thanks, Dinny

I have not heard that rumor, but it would be nice.

I just got a check back for a tag I applied for so I went online and applied for the random daily drawing. I got them last year so hopefully I will again.

The rifle rumor I have heard but all I heard was the rumor.

I went to the website, but can't find that statement.  Can you narrow it down a little more for me?

Thanks, Dinny

Excellent!
I also emailed the IL DNR and they sent me the same link.  I think this is a step in the right direction. Maybe someday we will be able to buy all of our tags OTC.

Thanks, Dinny

Do you have to purchase the tags in the county you are hunting?

Yes, it is county specific.

The county I hunt in is 6 hours away. Can I still get tags on-line?

I doubt it, but look on the website, I'm sure it states the deadlines.

Good for you, I hope it all goes through fine.  Did you find the document on their website that lists how may licenses are available?  That may give you a better idea of the availability in your county. This is my first year deer hunting in IL with a firearm.  I really don't understand the entire licensing process.  Before I deployed, I applied for a permit online in St. Clair county.  I just checked the website and found that I was able to obtain a permit.  I guess they will be mailed soon. What I don't understand about all of this is why are there ever extra licenses left at the end if we have a lottery?  A lottery would insinuate there are NOT enough to go around.

You will not be able to know what is left over until after the August Lottery I think the August lottery is just for boneheads like me who for got the deadline for the first lottery. But up here I don't think they have not issued a permit that was applied for since the CWD thing started they want them all dead. I always apply for 1tag plus the bonus antlerless for both the shotgun and the ML seasons and have gotten everything the last 5 yrs where in yrs before the CWD we always had some one who would end up with second season only tags. Dinny Belvider is just up the road from me . I'm in Machesney Park but hunt Stephenson county west of Pecatonica. Kurt
