Dom Beer Can Mortar - Firing
« on: June 27, 2009, 12:42:15 PM »
At the top of the picture you can see the beer can.  It was fired with 100 grains of fG powder.  The beer can was filled with concrete and weighted one pound.

Nice job!!!

Dom is making me another GB mortar for my son-in-law.  Can't wait to get that one and fire it off.

How far away did it land and did it hit anything in the background? Nice picture. Have you tried the shorter
6 oz. pop cans? Less concrete, less powder.

It went 80 yards.  The mortar was set at 80 degrees.  I have not tried the smaller cans or less concrete.  At the farm it when out of site and I could not find the can for a distance measurement with a full 250 grain load.

Cat Whisperer,

Attached is another picture.  Same set up as before.  It is a composite of two frames out of the AVI movie.  It shows the can leaving the mortar and again at the top of the picture.  I was trying to measure the velocity but the surveyor stick was not in focus.

250 grains with cement cans  should be some where around 80 to 140 yards away.  This is why it's always a good idea to have an aiming stake.  It gives you a reference point aiming point and  helps locate the impact zone.
