10/22 sillouette stocks
« on: June 26, 2009, 02:58:42 AM »
I've been bondering putting a sillouette stock on my heavy barrelled 10/22 I have built. It's an amazing shooter. I have a butler creek stock on it right now. I like the style of the laminated thumbhole stocks I see in cabelas and other places and seems they all look alike but all have different names on them. Cabelas has theirs along with boyds, yukon, and fajen. (I'd say there are others but can't remember the names) they all look identical large raised cheek peice thumbhole everything. I just wanted to know if there is a difference between them and if anyoneas a preference of one over the others.

My full custom 10/22 has a Boyds Ross Thumbhole in Birchell laminate that they no longer offer.   It's not a silhouette style stock thankfully.   Was sold as a finished drop-in for about $170 a few years ago.   Only way it would have been a drop-in would have been with a 15# sledge hammer.   Not even close to being inletted right.   Very poor quality control and even worse customer service from Boyds at the time.   Why they are all but gone probably.   Beautiful stock though for a stainless fluted 10/22... much nicer looking than the offerings they offered later IMO.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

I've had a Boyd's Blaster stock on my 10/22 for 8 years and absolutily love it. works good on the bench and off-hand. I highly recommend them. Mine was a drop in stock and i did nothing to fit it.
