50 BMG
« on: June 24, 2009, 04:01:35 PM »
I shoot a 50 BMG in a Grizzly Big Boar.  My supply of 50BMG powder is getting low.  Before I order another 8 pound can if I can find some...is there another powder some of you reloaders use that might be more effective?

Look at the powders on the web they are lined up by burn rate. for the 50 BMG would be the slowest burning rate so it would be one of the last powders listed.

My buddy reloads for his 50BMG.  I am thinking he said there was another powder that can be used, but I don't know anything about it.

Cartridges of the World list:  H870 with 225.0 gr, and AA8700 with 215.0 gr.

My 2007 Hodgdon manual does not list the .50 BMG, a newer one might.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

You might try this guy for powder (and primers & mil surplus bullets):  http://www.hi-techammo.com/

I have no affiliation with this gent, but plan to use him when I run out of primers, powder & bullets for my .50.  He sells 5010 powder for $120/8lbs. + then you have to add in shipping and haz-mat.  Although, he is advertising on Gunbroker right now, 32 pounds (in 4 - 8 lb. containers) shipped for $500 flat! Not bad if you need that much powder and can afford it! ;)

 Powders listed are H50  H-870  VIHT 24N41  AA 8700   H 5010   VIHT 20N29
