SEOUL, South Korea —  North Korea threatened Wednesday to wipe the United States off the map as Washington and its allies watched for signs the regime will launch a series of missiles in the coming days.

Off China's coast, a U.S. destroyer was tailing a North Korean ship suspected of transporting illicit weapons to Burma in what could be the first test of U.N. sanctions passed to punish the nation for an underground nuclear test last month.

The Kang Nam left the North Korean port of Nampo a week ago with the USS John S. McCain close behind. The ship, accused of transporting banned goods in the past, is believed bound for Burma, according to South Korean and U.S. officials.

The new U.N. Security Council resolution requires member states to seek permission to inspect suspicious cargo. North Korea has said it would consider interception a declaration of war and on Wednesday accused the U.S. of seeking to provoke another Korean War.

"If the U.S. imperialists start another war, the army and people of Korea will ... wipe out the aggressors on the globe once and for all," the official Korean Central News Agency said.

The warning came on the eve of the 59th anniversary of the start of the three-year Korean War, which ended in a truce in 1953, not a peace treaty, leaving the peninsula in state of war.

The U.S. has 28,500 troops in South Korea to protect against an outbreak of hostilities.

Tensions have been high since North Korea launched a long-range rocket in April and then conducted its second underground atomic test on May 25.

Reacting to U.N. condemnation of that test, North Korea walked away from nuclear disarmament talks and warned it would fire a long-range missile.

North Korea has banned ships from the waters off its east coast starting Thursday through July 10 for military exercises, Japan's Coast Guard said.

South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported Wednesday that the North may fire a Scud missile with a range of up to 310 miles (500 kilometers) or a short-range ground-to-ship missile with a range of 100 miles (160 kilometers) during the no-sail period.

A senior South Korean government official said the no-sail ban is believed connected to North Korean plans to fire short- or mid-range missiles. He spoke on condition of anonymity, citing department policy.

U.S. defense and counterproliferation officials in Washington said they also expected the North to launch short- to medium-range missiles. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive intelligence.

South Korea will expedite the introduction of high-tech unmanned aerial surveillance systems and "bunker-buster" bombs in response to North Korea's provocations, the Chosun Ilbo newspaper said, citing unidentified ruling party members.

Meanwhile, a flurry of diplomatic efforts were under way to try getting North Korea to return to disarmament talks.

Russia's top nuclear envoy, Alexei Borodavkin, said after meeting with his South Korean counterpart that Moscow is open to other formats for discussion since Pyongyang has pulled out of formal six-nation negotiations.

In Beijing, top U.S. and Chinese defense officials also discussed North Korea. U.S. Defense Undersecretary Michele Flournoy was heading next to Tokyo and Seoul for talks.

South Korea has proposed high-level "consultations" to discuss North Korea with the U.S., Russia, China and Japan.

At one time in the American west if someone threatened you or yours with harm. It was considered self defence if you hunted them down and killed them. It was a simpler better time.

Now I know there are some here who will try to blame the zioneoconnwoers for this. But it is just a case of someone who needs to be stomped into a grease spot.

What say we remove the warhead from an ICBM and launch it towards the royal palace? An impact at 5K MPH would get their attention.

Yea, All this is going on and Obama is out there telling jokes, going on vacation to Martha's Vineyard, and promoting socalised healthcare. This without a doubt should be the top story, but I guess the whitehouse press corps it too busy having a love affair with with Barry. These imbiciles haven't done any real objective
journalism in years. I seriously doubt they would even know how to report a story of any real importance like this one anymore.

If Tommyt's numbers are correct, and I believe they are,  we better ask permission from our lender before we start a war or engage in a conflict.  Right now we can't afford to pay attention much less anything else, JMO.

North Korea is a real and legitimate threat; however, their capacity to do harm is well documented, and response scenarios are drilled and kept fresh. They're not a huge threat though, and our capacity to neutralize their threat is still intact today, and probably will be for a few years yet. The Pentagon response was good; "With what?" This is Kim Jong Il pulling Obama's punk card; showing the freshman the way things work in the world. Kim's got WAY more experience than Obama, especially at how to hold on to power. If you could read a North Korean paper today, the headline would read something about how the Imperialists pig-dog President is curled up in the fetal on the floor in a puddle of his own urine in fear of the threat of North Korea. Every hollow word and non-action will fuel the propaganda machine and keep the family in power. But its a tempest in a teapot; North Korea exploits our weakness, but probably won't test our strength, unless they perceive we really are weak.

NK might just find out the hard way, just as JAPAN'S Isoroku Yamamoto stated that they have "awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve"!

Hay he has my attention.  We are within range of his missiles right now.  He might not be able to hit the lower 48, but Alaska and Hawaii are within reach.  And they just cut funding for the Missile Defense System up here.

Oh No, I don't want to glow.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

*GASP*
We...we....we agree.  :o ;D

Although I would never try to harm or have any of those people harmed.  Ever.

Kim Jong Ill is now threatening a nuclear firestorm.  We could take N. Korea, no problem.  However, what happens if China gets involved? I'm sure they're not going to sit back and watch us beat up their little brother...

Alot of the world plays chess, Americans play poker. If hostilities between NK and America heat up than China moves to take back Formosa while breaking the bank. NK gets SK in the deal if the Americans pack up and leave.

We have started wars and not finished them several times ! Others are willing to take the little heat we put on them for a short while to get what they want . When we go in kick the other sides AZZ and take all the spoils of war home and leave them to suffer and only then will the other countries of the world respect us . You respect the snake because you know it will hurt you . You screw with a box turtle because you know you can .
When someone attacks you it is important to first stop it , second make sure they won't be able to do it again for a very long time and last make sure they have lost enough that they see it was not worth it .
And last - any conflict not worth going the distance for AIN"T WORTH GETTING INVOLVED WITH TO START !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Barry is being tested.  This should be interesting; can a silver tongued messiah talk a lunatic into acting civil?  I'm betting the little nutjob will be rewarded with goodies and Barry will be given the peace prize.
