Guys,
I have to rant here a little. I feel like a dying breed. We are a conservative family(in our 30's with kids), we live in a small home (980 Sq ft),in the country,we grow most of our own food. we kill or grow our own meat. We buy very little unless we have to, we are God fearing, we respect nature, recycle. We even fertilize using chicken manure from our coop. Our family serves when called (my grandfather and father were drafted in the Marines, I volunteered. My wifes grandfather and father were in the navy in vietnam and WW2. We have family serving now
We do dog rescues and have fund raisers to pay for vetting/ fixing dogs for people who wish to adopt one or cannot afford to properly vet their dogs. Our group has placed 146 dogs from the animal shelters with new families, instead of them being put down. All this from the money that we have raised on our own, no state or grant money used. I am also a member of the wolf dog rescue
Now our county has a new preposal banning the ownership of some animals, animals that are non native to wisconsin, or considered dangerous. The biggest concern that we have is Wolf dogs, as we have 2 that we have taken in and will stay with us for duration of their lives.
These guys DON"T make good pets, difficult to house break, they will distroy furniture, they HATE cats.
I understand the concern with them just as the Rots, pittbulls, German shepards, Dobs and many of the more aggressive dogs. However, its the irresponible breeding or care of the animals not the animals themselves that cause the problem.
Now I am faced with the realization that they may force owners to surrender these animals to have them put down.
Furthermore, hunting season is around the corner. While I am a avid hunter, I am extremely upset with the way of hunters handle everything around here. Deer season arrives and every one with a gun shows up (many from out of state, Illinois mostly) and shoot at anything going through the woods. When gun season is over we find alot of dead deer, and a number of them wounded.
We have even reported deer dead in the woods with antlers cut off. Last year, I hung a sign out by the road stating to leave unwanted deer here instead of leaving them in the woods. Last season there were 5 deer that I processed, that I didn't shoot. Oh my lord you should have seen some of them, 2 to 3 bullet holes through some of them
We spent a entire saturday cleaning up the parking areas around the public hunting and fishing grounds where people dump their garbage(fast food wrappers, cardboard ammo boxes, and even beer cans)
People dump their garbage and pets, I have seen dogs chasing their owners down the road or come home to find yet another litter of cats dropped off at our place.
I am so ashamed of how humans treat everything. My kids ask me why people do what they these things, I can only say "I dont know"
I look around at what we humans are doing to our world, and I just want to set down and cry, for me there is always a furry shoulder to lean on
