Boxer chides Brigadier General for calling her Ma'am

Not once did she refer to him as General, Brigadier General or any other appropriate title which he certainly earned through personal effort. In the good ol' days, the good General could've called the Senator out.

Thanks for posting this; I now know how to properly address the SENATOR if I run into her at Wal Mart.  More likely my avoidance system would go into action.

It was a sad day when she moved from her native New York to California.

I think he was being respectful when he said ma'am. however it was not the correct term to use when addressing that woman!  Something more colorful would be appropriate!

He addressed her in a very courteous and prompt manner, very respectfully calling her "maam" - the correct military term to be used for a superior female officer.  She is probably totally ignorant of that fact.
She remonstrated him for not calling her "senator" and stated she had worked very hard to get that title.
Given the quaility of politicians (and she is on the low end) we have in the Congress, I would say it takes a lot more honest work and qualifications to be a general than a senator.  After all, Obama was our senator  :-[ - now we have Roland Burris. :-[

It would also be appropriate for "her" to address him by rank. I guess "she" is not familiar with military customs and courtesies.
It appears as though the Brigadier General stands on higher moral ground. ;)

Fortunately, Senators hold no rank in the Military chain of command. Congress as a legislative body can vote to send us to war, or whether or not to pay us, as an extension of the will of the people but they cannot issue orders. The President has command authority as the CNC. We pay congressmen courtesy as representatives of the people we serve to protect, whether they've earned it or not.

I've read some comments on other sites that she can do that because she's his boss. Nope, not true. He would have been just as  justified to demand that she address him as General, but he is the better man.

It's part of the liberal left's ''we're better and smarter than you'' attitude. They don't realize how stupid it makes them look. Boxer,Polosi,Clinton, all fall into the same catagory. Never had a real job in their life, but claim to know all about the working class, the military.
If they ever got thrown off their golden throne, and actually had to work for a living, they would end up being bar flies working for a shot and a beer, and a good time for $50. gypsyman

To me it shows a lot of insecurity on the part of the senator.  Doctors and other professionals seem to have the same complex.  Pride goes before the fall.

Got an idea! Lets fire her off an email and tell her how the General not only worked hard for his rank in the military, but put his life on the line as well. Let her know what a cheap shot it was to try and embarrass an American defender of freedom. He treated her with respect, and she in turn tried to scold him like you would a child in school.SHAME ON YOU BOXER.......OOPS! Sorry bout that, I forgot to say Mam ;D

Did he call her "Senator ma'am"? Or was it just "exalted majesty"?

I would have just stopped using titles myself and simply directed subject-predicate declarative sentences at her. Perhaps third person would have been used. It works great. It's hard for people to complain about. It makes people really insecure and nervous, especially people who are used to be domineering.

I sent her an E-mail last night letting her know how PO' ed I was at her comments and treatment of a Senior Military man. It was totally disrespectful and uncalled for  I urge you all to do the same...

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Her title should be "ignorant"..it is obvious that she as a "senator" makes policy for the military, of which she has no knowledge of the customs or culture.
No wonder they screw up everything when they try to deal with the military. Perhaps the idea of compulsory military service is a good one after all..especially for pampered brats who have had their own way all their lives. Don't mess up the REAL military with them however, send them to some of those quasi-military boot camps. They wouldn't be reliable enough for the regular military.

Notice the spin her office is putting on this.  But the good thing is it will cost her some votes.  She needs to return to NY.
