Trigger for Stevens 200

Got a Stevens rifle model 200, and the trigger sucks.  I swear it takes 8 lbs to pull that thing.  What trigger can I get that will replace it.  Will the Savage Accutrigger work?

no, the accutrigger is not compatible. apparently it must be installed WITH the trigger, not in addition to the trigger.

not sure why.

the 200 trigger can be adjusted by turning the silver screw counterclockwise as the action is upside down. it will "click" several times as it falls into notches. 3 or 4 clicks usually gets you a decent pull...

I gave up on mine - well I really did not try very hard. The trigger was much worse than I like. I sent off and got a Rifle Basix trigger. I got the cheaper one, I think for about $80. I liked it so well that I bought a second one for my next Stevens 200. SSS also sells one that is about the same price range, maybe a little more that I heard is even a better trigger. I know the Rifle Basix works and works well. Good Luck and Good Shooting

Check out this web page http://www.varminthunters.com/tech/savage/. All I did to my Stevens was I bought some .045 piano wire from Midway and bent it just like the factory had theirs bent. I installed it and my trigger is somewhere around 4lbs now. Which is where I like a cold weather hunting rifle trigger to be.

I'm sure it could be lightened, but I just didn't mess further with it after I installed the lighter wire. It's been workin great since. I like it a bunch now. But your right.....those 8lb pulls can make your finger bleed.

i just put a timney trigger in a pre-accutrigger model 10. midway had them on sale, was going to get another for my last 516 in 243 and midway's new price is $102.00 about $30.00 higher than sale price.still i like the timney better than the rifle basic. gander mountain had it listed in last gun digest. price to my ffl $468.11 had simmons prohunter 4x scope, with muzzle brake. took three tries calling the handling store and being put on hold for 5 min. at a time,by the clock and finally asked for store manager. asked him if they wanted to sell a firearm and he was all business and very  knowledgeable. i am sure they made money but i am also sure i got a "buy". my 10 cents worth when 2 would have been plenty.

I'll second the timney trigger.  Got a Stevens 25-06 and installed a Timney.  Now its trigger is set for about 3 lbs.  Real easy to install and not too expensive.

I have six Savage/Stevens rifles, all sporting Sharp Shooter Supply competition triggers. Two of these rifles had Accutrigger. IMHO the SSS triggers are the best aftermarket triggers available for the Savage/Stevens products.

others mentioned adjusting the pull weight, but don't forget about the overtravel. Apparently on the Stevens rifles the factory doesn't bother to make this adjustment , but with a little allen wrench time this can really crisp up the feel of the Stevens200 trigger.

For a low budget hunting rifle installing an older 3 screw savage trigger is a great way to get a great trigger without spending 1/3rd of what the rifle cost on a SSS,rifle basix or Timney unit.

I put a Timney in my Sav. 116, 2.5 lbs. and a Rifle Basix in my mod. 111, 2 lbs. and another Basix in my Rem 700, 1.5 lbs. I like the Rifle Basix better, JMO
The 1.5 lbs is a little light for a hunting rifle but it's great for long range shooting.

I just put a Basix trigger. on my steven 7mm-08 and it is set at 2lbs.  Very crisp and clean!
