Had a weak moment
« on: June 10, 2009, 11:13:52 AM »
The dreadful Encore sickness has made it's way into my Browning Safe.  I am not sure how long the Encore FLU lasts but...  The stainless Pro-Hunter #1870 frame with Flex-tec stock is  just what the doctor ordered to tame the brutal recoil from the 17 HMR. :o ;D
Now if the rain would stop I could get out to the range. I guess the few shots in the back yard will have to hold me over.
The barrel is a stainless 24" with sights #4286.  The bore from the  T/C factory was very dirty. I just ordered a .17 cal brass jag for my .17 cal ProShot cleaning rod.  No matter what i tried, could not get a patch to go down the bore without a jag. >:(  (Did not want to hurt the bore.)
Looks like this Encore will be fun though.

If it shoots as good as my factory TC Contender barrel, you will be very happy with it. Mine likes the Hornady vmax loads best.

I'm like Slim, I've got a 14" and 21" Contender barrel and they both are almost boringly(is that a real word?) accurate.  Hornady V-Max shoots sooooo good, I've never tried anything else.  But your are right...the recoil is brutal ;D.

I'll tell you what is brutal with these 17 rimfires... I unpacked all my HMR and HM2 ammo today from the recent move.   Didn't know when I bought a lifetimes supply of both that I was going to move the HMR twice and the HM2 once.   I won't move them again though.   If they don't get shot they're my sons problem.   ;D
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus
