.357 MAX at 300
« on: June 06, 2009, 03:31:35 AM »
The wind finally quit for a while and I got the Max sighted in dead on at 35 yards yesterday with the intention of moving out to 100 today.  For some unexplained reason, I just now picked it up, stepped out on the back porch, rested on the rail and rang the 300 yard gong ;D  Actually about 325 off the porch.

I think I'm gonna like this baby :-* :-*

I can't tell ya.  I held to the top of the target, and it rang it.  I knew there was going to be considerable drop, so I instictively allowed for that.  I've pushed a lot of bullets, and I just have a natural feel for drop.  I shoot 300 yards almost daily with all calibers.  It went where I thought it would.

I don't own a Handi that won't make mincemeat out of a target at 300 yards.  Any doubters can stand out there and catch the strays.

That's the nice thing about reactive targets, all hits are 10Xs!!  ;D

Very cool, I've been thinking a ladder sight would be great fun for that kind of shooting.

Kind of like the old Martini Cadet rifles, they used to shoot those at longer ranges in spite of the "low powered" .310 cartridge.

If you held on the top of the gong it would have to be rather large.  Either that or maybe sighting in at 35 yards is before the bullet drops back down into the line of sight.

The army sighted M16s in at 1000 inches, and I believe that put them on at 300 yards........or perhaps it was 500 yards....I don't remember.
