This was the beer my dad used to drink.I turned my nose up at it for the more expensive limey brews. Move the clock forward thirty years, and I go to admit the old man was wise beyond his years. Now I'm drinking it when the wallet will not allow the more refined stuff,and I am finding I like it quite a bit,and it's cheap to boot. And I find I am drinking abit more now that the Obama regime is in power.

PBR is my favorite "Budget Beer" - And I'd put it up to a taste test against many beers cost 2x as much.

BTW, My dad drank Blatz, Meister Brau, and PBR- Whatever was on sale, or who was coming over to play cards that night

I have been enjoying Hamms beer lately. I still remember the commercials from years ago, the Hamms bear! Good times.

I remember some of the other old Wisconsin classics: Point, brewed in Stevens Point, and one of my old time favorites, Rhinelander beer. And we mustn't forget about good old Red, White, & Blue - that was a great old cheapo beer.

I have a Hamm's bear clock and a serving tray in my garage along with other memorablia. I also have the leinies indian I picked up when I was working in Minnesota I knew the were doing Hamm's again,but cant find it in Arizona,only Schlitz

Never drank it till I met this wonderful little woman in Arizona. That's all she drank, so I had to try it. PBR became the only beer we drank till we moved to Alaska and could no longer get it.

I have been drinking PBR for near 50 years. It was once one of the most popular beers in this area. Now there is only one place in town that sells it. So they get all my business.

I remember watching some old war movie where the sailors had beer supplied to them in cans that had to be opened with a can opener ?? It seems that I remember a ton of cans spilling into the ocean ??
I only saw it once and can barely remember the details. However, I do remember the brand of beer they were given---PBR.

One thing about growing up and going to college in Wisconsin, you never had a shortage of affordable beer

A couple of weeks ago, I was in the Charleston, SC area and went to visit Fort Moultrie. It is on Sullivan's Island, north of Charleston harbor. As you come onto the island, there is a pub called Dunleavy's. It has a large collection of old beer cans. I spent a bit of time just walking around the place visiting old friends. If you are ever in the area, it is worth stopping in.

I tasted the same Pabst twice when I was a teen to have many fond memories of it. Not the beer's fault at all. Of the standard modern brands, I drink more Yeungling than anything else. To my mind, it comes up to the level of German beers.

Pabst had a brewery in Omaha when I was a kid and when I was in college and drinking age was 18 they put on some free keggers. I remembered that and when I drink or by beer it is Pabst.

Sourdough, back in the 70's when I was a student at UAF and the Alaska legal age was 19, there was some place in Fairbanks that had Pabst on tap and I thought that was the best - and not just because it was affordable. Especially after spending a full summer in the bush totally dry. Maybe it was Uncle's Pizza or Midnight Mine. I guess both places are gone now. Uncles was in the same row of businesses as Sampson's Hardware and the Big I. Hope Sampson's reopens - they have cool stuff.

PBR! Harkens me back to earlier days. Along with Red-White-and Blue and Peils, PBR is what lubricated me through my college years (28 years ago, had to use the calculator). Can you imagine $0.99/six pack today? Those economy beers were much cheaper than stupid bottled water is today, and with all of the extra vitamins and minerals, beer has to be better for you, right? At least that's what I tell my wife.

When I was at the grocery store a couple weeks ago,the stocker who worked for the distributor{coors products} said PBR was making a comeback in Arizona really hard. A couple years back you could only find the 12 pack cans. Now it is everything 30 packs,tall boys,bottles.16 ouncers. Seem like they are really marketing it hard,without print or video media. Matter of fact I went on PBR website and they are proud that they have beenable to do so without a media blitz. If it helps keep the price down,I am all for it.

I used to drink PBR but switched to MGD and Coors. I would rether die of thirst than drink a butwiper (Bud). I prefer pilsner over lager. Now I drink good beer, Siera Navada Pale Ale.

Pabst was my first drunk, I was 14 or 15 years old - My friends dad had some cases in the basement and we got into it one day after school. I had never been so sick in all my life. My Father found out , and after the two fathers talked , neither of us even got punnished, they believed the green look we both had how sick we had got was punishment enough.

PBR, return a case of empty long necks in 71 and a fresh case cost less than $4. Can't find it round here now. I drank Old Milwalkee til it disappeared. Now I drink what ever every body else is drinking.

First time I got knee walkin, commode huggin drunk was on PBR... that was in the late 50's... hadn't had one since...

Back when I used to drink alcohol I had a quantity versus quality debate with myself and chose quality. I'd get some decent wine that I liked rather than drinking more of less expensive drinks. For example, it would have been a lot cheaper per drink to drink beer or liquor, but I just drew the line at drinking only the stuff I truly liked.

BPR is actually pretty decent. I agree about putting it up against many other beers that cost quite a bit more, and that's coming from a pretty hard-core beer snob.

Another really excellent "budget" beer I'd recommend if you can find it is Stoneys. Just make sure to check the "best before" date, it's not a very popular beer and may have been hanging around the cooler for a while. Stoney's goes nasty faster than other beers, as they don't use any kind of preservatives in it.

Pabst Blue Ribbon was the beer on tap for "Nickel Beer Night" at our local saloon in the early 70's. Went the first time and tried it.....it was ok, especially for 5 cents a mug, The next week I went back with some of my high school buddies and downed a couple of dollars worth of nickel beer.

I quickly entered into the realm that AtLaw refers to : Commode hugging drunk.......

After two trips to the bathroom stalls I swore off PBR and haven't tasted it for 35 years.

Growing up in the beer business with my parents, all thru the '60's,'70's and mid '80's, PBR was at one time, the number one beer here in the Toledo area. My dad got a tap box when I was about 14, so always had a keg on tap. My dad always said I could have a beer, as long as I wasn't going anywhere. But, if I remember right, mid to late '70's, PBR changed their reciepe, and taste went to hell. I switched over to Busch. (about $10 cheaper a keg,than Bud) The last time I had PBR, I was one the road at a gun show, picked up a 6 pack to go back to the motel room. They must have switched back to their old reciepe, as it tasted like the old stuff, went down pretty smooth. As of right now, have a keg of Honey Brown on tap. Fact is, I think I hear it calling me know!!gypsyman
