  • IF ONLY I COULD GO BACK-I WOULD BE A MOUNTAIN MAN!
Another one follows me home
« on: June 05, 2009, 10:08:15 AM »
Stopped by the local Gander MT store today.
I usually don't go there much.
The prices are a little to high for me.
While looking at the used guns, most of the used H&Rs were in the $229.00 range I spotted a 500S&W for $199.00.
HW so it is a 06 model.
It had a rail and the front sight.
The rear sight was gone and one of the sight screws was messed up.
It had a really nice factory tiger stripe stock on it, shame the forearm didn't match with the same stripping.
Asked the salesman if he knew anything about the gun and was that the bottom dollar.
Turns out he did know the gun.
It was his brothers.
He had traded it in on a new MOSSBERG 12ga.
He said it had been fired only 3 times.
Once by him and twice by his brother.
He went to ask the boss about the price.
When he came back they had dropped the price to $175.00 + tax.
Didn't need it as I already have one but who can turn down an as new Handy for that price!
I guess I will find something to do with it.
Just shows that you never know what deals you may find, even at the high price stores.

50-70 uses .510" bullets, bore on the .500 S&W is .500", dunno if you could load .500" bullets in the 50-70 dies and make it work.

You are right as always.
I don't know if that would work or not.
Might have to have a set of custom dies done that would neck it down a little.
Sort of a super tight 50-70.
Will do some more checking.

That's kinda what the .500 Martin is, only it's based on the .50 AK.

It is amazing how they do that...follow you home.  You can stop in to pick up a box of bullets, and whammo.....there's another in the trunk of the car.  How does that happen. ???

I've got a problem with folks dropping off unwanted dogs and cats here at my place.  I'm trying to figure a way to have them drop off unwanted firearms instead.  Anybody got any ideas?
