What to do...
« on: June 04, 2009, 03:02:24 PM »
I have space issues.  I'm just plain out of room.  I have six handis.  Only one of them has multiple barrels.  I kind of like not having to change a barrel when I want to shoot a gun.  But I'm out of space.  I have a 45-70 waiting to pick up from a gun shop and a PSL that I'm paying off and will bring home sooner or later.  I kinda need another shotgun too.

Now, I just tried some barrel swapping.  I have two that will fit up with no modification onto the one receiver that already has a couple of barrels.  I could sell off the two freed up actions and stocks.  BUT, then I wouldn't have those barrels set up like I do now.

I'm truly torn between my irrational craving for more Handis and my practical need to thin out my gun rack.  This is, as many have stated, a sickness.

I'm sure if you look around, you can find other things to do away with to make space.  Do you have a cook stove?  Who uses those things anymore.  After all there is pizza.  Throw it out.  Dining table?  Who eats there anyway.  Get some TV trays and get rid of the table.

You gotta' put this in perspective, you know, get your priorities straight! ;D

  Good suggestions.

Maybe I ought to qualify my first post.  The room I'm running out of is inside the safe.

I could get another safe, but that would be admitting to my wife that I have THAT many guns.  Not a perfect option right there  :-X

I have a friend who has guns just randomly stashed throughout the house because he ran out of safe room.   He also has a few hidden in his car and some in the shed outback.  He gets in trouble every now and then when his wife finds one.  I don't think she has a clue how many guns he owns.  He'd be in big trouble if she did.

Personally I boxed in the corner of a room when I ran out of safe space.  There's probably enough room in there for 50 guns if I built shelves everywhere.  Now I just need to work on obtaining 50 guns!

Hogwash, tell the wife you have to have the other safe to balance the room. ;)  I now have 3 safes and guns stashed around, so I have to have another as you can't have an odd number of safes in the house. ::)  BTW, just brought home number 24 Handi, Like new 22 mag Ultra for 150.00. ;D  DP

I built gun racks around my clothes closet so that a stash is behind my clothes.  Then the safe is in the other closet.  A few in the shed by the reloading bench.  Some under the bed.  A couple really hidden away just in case.......................

The best place for me is under the bed(s). I've even thought about building a sliding rack for just that. My safe got full a long time ago.

Boys, don't even start to worry untill you have 6 safes and all but one of them is at least double stacked.
It's called a collection.
Can be used for many things down the road.

My wife doesn't even bother to ask anymore.
My biggest problem is room for all the ammo and reloading items.

I hear ya Longtom, my gun room is so crowded, I can't get any reloading done.  Course if I would stay off here some, I could get more done. ::)  DP

My home was built (the original part) over a hundred years ago, and it's a typical old farmhouse with small upstairs bedrooms with slopeing ceilings and knee walls.  There's two large, deep side by side closets up there, cedar lined.  So I built cedar false backs to the closets, and whammo room for 30 more long guns.  Out of sight.
