June 4th Good Morning !
« on: June 04, 2009, 04:00:56 AM »
Good morning all : clear , calm , 61 and rising .
Yesterdays hunt was ok , we got 362 total . We have been having to quit early as I have play practice every evening .  Some of the best shooting hours are between 6 and 8:32 in the evening or 7 to 9 AM . These fellows are staying in a motel 40 miles away . (Closest one )  By the time they get here in the morning , get there stuff loaded its a bit late start in the day . Gophers get scarce for a couple hours in the heat of the day .   The 362 were taken in a 20 acre area and we spent the whole day there . The area is a winter feed pen for goats .  We took over 100 out of the area the evening before . so the small patch yielded over 460 gophers . The owner stopped by to thank us .   ;D
Short day today as we are proof firing my mortar this afternoon .  ( we use a bale trip counter to keep track , It's mounted to the windshield with a suction cup .)
Hope you all have a good day .

Southpaw, great shooting. 47 degrees and sunny here. Got some range time with my new 357 Handi.I was shooting very inconsistently, but when I was doing my part it shot very well.It seems to prefer 187gr  fngc @ 1900fps.Very  consistent , small groups.  ;D  Doug

Good evening everyone.  Nice day in Montana today.

This morning was reserved for domestic duties.  Had to repair a garden hose and water te garden.  Did do some reloading this morning.

I went up to Southpaws this afternoon.  Now I see the big numbers Southpaw has been posting this week...All I know I only fired 8 rounds from my gun this afternoon...let Southpaw explain... :)

Got pretty nice in Billings today, was in the low 70's.  Sounds like changes for the weekend, maybe even a chance for some snow overnight.  Don't need the white stuff, do need the moisture.  Glad to hear ya got some range time in with the new baby, Doug.  Next time ya come down, bring her with ya and we will introduce my 3 to yours.  Maybe we can even breed em and sell the barrels.  DP

Only  129 gophers today  >:(  We had to hurry home to test fire the home built mortar .
Had a real gathering of friends and family when we got home .
Here is the last shot of the day ....

It takes a while to down load .... But we did miss the power line , and the Owl's nest .
Doug enjoyed my over shot ...but his first one did over shoot also .... ;D

Good morning to all you Montanan's.   Its interesting following your gopher hunts.  We don't seem to have them over here like that anymore.   Anyway, I have been working on my property near Clark Fork lately and also built an elevated deer stand.  Its a monster but its going to be nice this fall.   I built it here at home and hauled it up to the property on a trailer.   Its 4' x 8' completely enclosed with plywood and windows.  I mounted it 9 feet off the ground on six 4x4's.   Ill use a propane heater to take the chill off this fall.  Actually I got the idea last fall, while I was freezing my ass off in the other open air tree stand.  We had a pretty brisk fall and I wimped out several times after only a hour or two.   Not this year.   I should be able to hang in there from daylight to dark if I want.

Never have hunted from a blind or stand . sounds like a great way to have a look see and stay warm . ;D

I have a sissor lift for out in this treeless country , It will lift 38'  but the way the wind blows  one would need guide wires  :>)
