It'll handle Ruger/modern rifle loads if you can, most don't care to tho, even stout 1895 loads are too much for most shooters!!  ;D If you look at Buffalo Bore and Garrett loads, they list the Handi.  ;)

I loaded 550 grs up to 1950 fps once. ONCE....

I bought a box of the Buffalo Bore, and still have most of them.  The rifle handles them fine but I don't.  I'm saving them until I am attacked by a Rhino in my back yard, or until I can slip them in on some unsuspecting relative at the range.

Ben, that reminds me of a blackpowder shoot I went to once upon a time about 20yrs ago, I had already shot the trailwalk and was lettin my best friend and huntin/fishing partner shoot it with my new .50cal flintlock pistol, I'd load, he'd shoot, he kept saying "load that up boy" after each shot.....so I did!!  ;D Normal  load was 15gr Goex, whilst he was talking with a friend, I loaded it with 3 measures for a 45gr load on top of the .495" patched ball. :o He never hit another target after that!!!  :D He did like shooting it tho and subsequently bought his own.  ;)

I can't imagine why anyone would want to...

Even the 1895 "Marlin" loads will rattle your teeth in a new 1886 Winchester.  I don't think I'd want a taste of a Ruger #1 load in a Handi - NO Thanks!  :P

That said - for stalking & hunting this could be a combo.  I just like to be able to enjoy running 100+ rounds down the bore (without detatching a retina)..

The Hornady 325 gr, .45-70 works well with me.  Managed to get the yard cut this weekend, and sorry guys, no Cape Buffs there.  I thought for sure I saw them.  I think, (HELP TIM) you can shoot any standard .45-70 load in your Handi, and won't hurt it a bit.  I think with the +Ps, the only factor is your shoulder.

I was standing behind my "tough guy" brother when he fired one of these.  That was to keep my rifle from hitting the ground as he was cradling the foreend on a crooked elbow.  One was all it took.

I had some 5 gallon metal pails with a latch on lid.  We filled some of these with water to the top, and
sealed the lid tightly.  When the bullet hit, the lid went well into the air, and the sides ballooned out.

I was just curious if they could handle them. I am a big guy. 6' 1" and 290 lbs. Not alot of fat. I don't think I want to tangle with one of these rounds. I like the way my shoulder is attached to my body right now.

They don't actually detach your shoulder...it's your arm that goes. ;)

That's what LeadSleds are for!! Or just shoot offhand as Tyler does with his monster 45-120 405gr Rem 2500fps loads!!  :o
