Different Caliber on a BC
« on: May 25, 2009, 08:01:13 PM »
The BC is so pretty ... I'd like to get a nice medium bore w/ open sights to go with it, but I'm wondering if the recoil through that curved metal butt plate is going to be worth it. Anybody shoot a .30 cal on a BC stock?

I think the platform would be perfect for a .30/40 Krag. Nostalgic, powerfull enough for most hunting, cast-bullet friendly, modest recoil. A match made in Gardner !!

I agree. I think the rifle it's self is beautiful. I just don't need a .45-70 or even a .38-55 when that was available.

If it were in .30-30 I'd be on it like a duck on a Junebug. Even .30-40 would be nice. I've even though about having a .30-30 stub built.
But then again it might be better to have a  sleave  put in a standard BC.

Why would you sleeve or stub one when the .30-30 is available as an accessory barrel?

Wayne does liners if you want a longer 30-30 barrel.  ;)

Track offers liners by the inch, dunno about chamber adapters for a BC barrel tho, that sounds like a custom option.

How long is the 30-30 barrel?  Or how long can they go?
I really like the look and feel of the BC with that long barrel.
A quick ream job to 30-40K would be ideal.

I've got the standard 22" .30-30. They just seem to "hang" off hand like those long barrels do.

put a 22 Hornet barrel on my lil 45 BC frame and wood.  Had my 45's loaded warm enough the metal butt-plate was leaving stripes on my shoulder. the little Hornet looks right at home with the Walnut and color-case frame.  DP

I had a 22" .30-30 with a BC stock set.  It was great.  The BC barrels are just too heavy and cumbersome to hunt with.
