Is your Savage 99 already drilled for a scope base? The 99s that are drilled for bases are all done differently depending on the gunsmiths preferred method. If it's not already drilled and you want a scope base, the Leupold will work fine. I have one that was drilled for an old Redfield one piece base and I was able to replace the .75" rings used on the old rings with 1" Leupold rings. The front dove tail and rear ring with the azimuth adjust screw. It was pretty easy to put a modern scope on it. My other model 99 has .75" rings that are screwed into iron sight mounts already on the gun. This one would be a problem changing scopes, so for the time being, I'm leaving the old Weaver 330 scope on the rifle. If your model 99 is not currently drilled for a scope, take it to a gunsmith.
