Hello I'm Brian.  I am not an Handi holic but I'm working on it.
Looking at the Gaps.
22 Hornet for medium game under 150 yards. (Javilina, Coyote, Raccoon.. anything in that 30-50 pound range)

45-70?  If you are looking for a big boomer.

44 Mag is always a winner, same with 30-30.  But the 357 Max is similar in Horse Power to 44 mag.  and anything the 30-30 can do your 30-06 can do better.

22 Long Rifle for small game and plinking.

Brian, I've got .22LRs, .22-250, .45-70, and a .30-30 Marlin levergun.  The .44 mag, the .44 -.45 colts, the Whelen, the 7.62X39,  possibly a 7.62X54R have my attention down the line.  It's kinda like what comes up next.  It is absolutely terrible and I need a good doctor and a cure.

Ya Pete ,

You need one of those 44s brother ..... With out a doubt .... My missus loves her 357 lever , but very few pistol calibered carbines speak with the authority of the 44 mag and these new barrels are dandy shooters with both lead and copper coated candy.

Oh and FYI they dont make a pill for whats wrong with us handi-holics

Default,  What.....No Pill....Oh My.....what do we do now.....I guess buy more.  Seriously, I think the .44 Mag is going to be the next one.  I'm setting up to reload straight walled calibers, and the .44 will fit right in.

May as well  go to the 445 super mag and still be able to shoot 44 mag and 44 special in just the one rifle. That way you can start with what you going to end up with lol.

How about a finicky 243 SL to tinker with?
Me?  I want a 357, and then a TDC or Topper Trap.

Or go the other route.....gunbroker has a "Bay State" that looks in good condition.

Get yourself the .357.  I've had three now, and they all shoot one hole groups.  Perhaps the finest Handi made.  As far as the .243, I quit 6mm a few years back because it wasn't killing deer the way I want, with the same placement as my .308.  Don't get me wrong, it kills them, but most of them run.  I'm old, and really like deer to drop where they stand.....no chasing required.  The .45-70 is premium for that.  It knocks them off their feet and they don't get up.

He specializes in this malady, his cost sre reasonable.Usually about $350.00 for his work.
Seems to me his waiting list for the begining of the cure is @ 6 to 9 weeks.

Pete, the 44 is a real good shooter now.  And I gotta tell ya, that 7-30 Waters isn't far off the 7mm-08.  My 280 is sweet and I need to work on the 25-06 to see what she will do.  My 22 and 22mag are one holers.  How about a 257 Roberts AI?  Start with the 44!  DP

If you already have a 45-70, then a .44 mag seems kinda like a waste.  I'd go with a 20 gauge rifled barrel ;D

Pete,

You need on of them big bore .500 S&W barrels for your handi and top it off with some 700gr cast and you will have a portable cannon. ;D
