Got myself a lever gun today!!!
« on: September 16, 2003, 01:34:23 PM »
Out of all of the guns I own, this was the missing link.  I bought a Marlin 336 .30-30 today.  I have always been fond of Marlin .30-30's, and of course, I came up with a need for one to satisfy the wife (heh heh).  I guess eventually I will have to get a guide gun to go with it.

Let me be the first to say CONGRATS!

Be careful though, these Leverguns (especially Marlins) can get addicting; and before you know it she's asking "where'd that one come from?"  Of course the correct reply will be:  "don't you remember honey, this is the one we talked about last year" etc.

The one I use the most is:  "oh, this old thing, I've had this one for years."

Enjoy, :D

Amen to the addicting part!  I have finally settleded down to mostly single action revolvers and lever action rifles.  Had some bolt actions, very accurate guns, but boy were they akward to use.  All that movement didn't come natural, kinda like a semi-auto pistol were you have to "push up" to take off the safety!  Lever actions feel good, carry easy, and do everything I want to do with a rifle.  (Oh and try "Sure Honey, you remember that one, it's just been back of the safe for a while.")     44 Man

Glad I do not have that problem with my wife.  Whenever I carry another gun in she just says "Found another deal, what do you have this time".  She has her hobbies and I have mine.

Glad , I don't usually have that problem either. (just once, When I brought 3 new ones home in 2 days. I guess I pushed my luck a little. I have a friend that has successfully convinced his wife that it's for investment purposes. Works for him.

So far, the only trouble that my wife has given me about my rifles was when she latched on to my favorite 444, and then she had the stock cut down to fit her.  I've learned to encourage her to buy her own dang guns, as a diversion from mine.  She shares my enjoyment of lever guns to the point that we named our first son Henry (Marlin, Winchester, Browning, and Savage just didn't make the cut for a kid's name).

I love my Marlin 336.  It was a good deal. The dealer didn't check on the going rate and I got it cheap.
Wifey gave me a hard time about my guns in the past until we had a contest.
The deal was: Say we get really desperate financially. What stuff in her hobby, Scrapbooking, can be turned into money in a moments notice?
What stuff in my hobby, Guns, can be turned into money in a moments notice?
I won, case closed! Gotta luv it.
My aim is to hit what I am shooting at!

Best thing that happened to me was when the stock market took a dump a couple years ago.  Wife looked at our retirement and had to sit down and take a pill.  Then I sold an original winchester I had bought a couple years earlier, Doubled my money in 2 years and made sure she knew about it.  Now, when one of those long boxes comes in the mail, she just asks, "is it a good one"?  And I think: "never saw a bad levergun".

Congrats on the Marlin

Thanks for the replies everyone.  I took her out to the ranch this weekend and shot a couple of boxes of the Winchester Supreme 150 Gr. Moly Coated shells.  I think I have fell in love.  I have only two guns that will beat this one at 100 yards (my others are on par or a little worse) and that is my Heavy barreled .220 Swift and my A-Bolt .300.  I was hunting for coyotes this weekend, and I ended up leaving the Swift at the house.
