Ruger Hawkeyes ?

I bought 2 one .358 was free floated but you could hear it squeek when you picked it up by the bbl and foreend. Sold it and bought another in .308 but it wasn"t free floated at all ! Sold it
   Called ruger and they said they were supposed to be free floated. I was trying to get one solid shooting rifle for most of my purposes and get rid of a few I had, you know be a "one gun" hunter. For me the .308 would do it.
    So would you take a chance on another Ruger Hawkeye or is there something else you could recommend in about the same price range.

seems like you could see(run a dollar bill around the barrel) if they were free floated before you buy them. That would be way easier than trading or selling again.  And wouldnt ruger have fixed them if you held on to them then called about the free floating? Just seems like a lot of hassle for a free float problem especially since so many rifles shoot good without free floating.

Rugers rarely shoot well free floated.

The Ruger Hawkeye Tactical in 308 shoots extremely well.It is free floated.

My stainless Hawkeye .30-06 is definitely not free floated and makes no indication that it was ever supposed to.

Just scoped it up today and it one sweet rifle---just hope it shoots as good as it looks.

I have a hawkeye tactical in .308. It shoots amazing!! I got a hawkeye sporter with zeiss conquest on the way .243. I'll let everybody know how it does, I have great expectations on it.

No I didnt shoot them. Noticed one was bedded and one was not. are both yours free floated ? I looked at a 7x57 and it was not free floated.They had a .223 that was. What is the deal on these ?

never checked , I shoot a gun , if it shoots good i accept it as is and go on shooting .If it shoots bad then we look deeper or sell it . I don't think a gun has to fit a certian set of rules just shoot good .

You really need to go shoot them before trading em off-----that's going to get expensive real fast and you still have nothing to show for it.

The barrel channels on my Ruger M77 stocks are cut with a noticeable contact point at the tip of the forend.  Ruger M77 factory barrels are way too thin to be free-floated.  My ought-six strings vertically -- typical of light-barreled rifles, in my experience.  I am thinking of sending it to Shaw for their #1-1/2-contour 24" barrel, same cartridge.  Can't beat the old .30-'06.
