Mine (2007 manufacture) shoots good with Winchester 240 grain soft points (white box). It also shoots well with Hornady 265 grain Interlocks and 265 grain Beartooth gas checked hard cast. My understanding is that they do OK with bullets up to and including 300 grains, but personally have not tried any yet. Good Luck and Good Shooting

Mine shoots 240's very well, with the long chamber throat I am going to try some longer/weighted bullets.

I shot some 300 grain Nosler hollow points in mine, they were very accurate. I used Winchester 296 powder at max charge.

If you start going over 300 grains you have problems getting the bullet to stabilize. For heavier stuff most people use a 1:20 if it's available.

+1 for the 240 grain win. white box .. And the great thing is the Win white box 240 goes to the same place as my hand loaded 240gr hard cast RNFP loaded with W296 ..

I havent gotten around to loading any 300's yet... But that shouldnt be needed , last deer i pegged with a white box 240 gr had a baseball sized exit , that was a behind the shoulder ( dead run) broadside shot at 45 to 55 yards ... Couldnt have asked for more ... Now if i had something a far bit larger and tuffer i was after i might get off my butt and load up some 300 gr loads ;)

After thought : I have a 2008 model ... I know the Pre 07's had bore diameter issues ... so if you have an older one the old timer Handi guys will point you in the direction of a good way around that..

Although that rate of twist is slow ( same as Marlin 1894's ) they seem, in most cases, to be able to stabilize up to 300 grain, IF pushed hard, and IF lead bullets are sized to the bore.

265 Hornady's have been the most accurate out of my 1:38" Marlin lever actions so far.  I'm sticking as close to that weight as I can for most stuff now in both my .44 and .444
