Has anyone hunted with a X-Bolt Hunter yet?
« on: May 10, 2009, 04:45:48 AM »
I've got some money to spend and just found out Browning make the X-Bolt in 280 Rem.
However no one seems to have actually used an X-Bolt yet and I'm wondering how they shoot out of the box, how effective the recoil pad is, the smoothness of the action, etc. etc.
Has anyone bought one?
How do they shoot?

Kombi,
I haven't held or shot one of these yet so I will hedge my assumptions with that.  Given the free floated barrel and pillar bedding I would expect out of the box accuracy to be at the very least on par with rifles with similar work such as most of the savage line.  I hope that someone replies who has actual experience with this rifle, I was reading about one the other night and I'm interested also!

I can't say anything about the x-bolt; but I have 3 A-bolts and I prefer them to any rifle on the market. I have a .308 micro; a 7-08 micro and a .243 Medalion. They all are very accurate and trouble free. Good smooth actions and great adjustable triggers.

No news on the X-bolt but I did buy my kid an A-bolt in 280 about 1990-ish.  He was about 14 at the time.  I is still a very nice rifle.

I have a 270 WSM X-Bolt. I initially had a problem with the alignment of the stock and barrel. Had to send it back to Browning who repaired in 4-6 weeks and now it shoots anything you put into it. The recoil pad is better than the limbsaver I had on a Ruger 270WSM. I can shoot more rounds with the X-bolt before the pain starts kicking in.  Just got a doe last weekend and I'm very happy X-bolt owner.

Hey Kombi!  See

http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php/topic,183302.0.html

I loaded him up some generic 270's w/130 gr. corelocks and H4831.  The rifle started out shooting just (barely) over an inch and hasn't quit yet!    ;)

His cheap scope went south after about 40 rounds though...  :-\  I wasted no time in telling him "I told you so!"   :D  Believe it or not he went to BASS and bought a Leupold to put on it!   :o

For the life of me I can't find anything not to like about the rifle.  He says the recoil is next to nothing compated to the several other 270's he owns so I guess the pad works.
