I searched through the forums and couldn't find anything, but here's what I've got and what I'm looking to do:
I've got a Stevens / Savage 325-c 30-30. I'm not sure how old it is as my pop doesn't recall when he first picked it up.
http://www.wisnersinc.com/additional_info/Savage_340.htmI'd like to mount a scope on it, but I have two problems:
First, it looks like I'll have to find a good gunsmith to tap some holes for a side mount. I have the two holes for what appears to be a peep mount on the rear, but not the four holes referred to by the above website.
Second, my local shop didn't even know where to pick up a side mount scope any more.
This is a nice rifle, and one I'd like to use more often, but with the crappy old steel sights, it just isn't useful at realistic ranges.
So I don't know what my next step in first finding whether it's /possible/ to mount a scope on this rifle is, and second, where to go to get one. I think I can find a less local gunsmith who will do the job, but before I take it to someone I don't know and trust, I'd like to know if others out there think this will be a good or bad idea.
