What's a "sissy stick"?

saw this term and a photo posted on the classified with a lam/camo for sale.
 I'm guessing it's a re-coil suppersor of some form, but how does it work?

Its just a steel weight put in the butt stock to help absorbe recoil. Uses mass to slow down the recoil punch. 8)

One o' them there shootin' sticks!  Least ways, that's what I called 'em till I needed one, but I STILL ain't let no one see me usin' one!!!  If my huntin' partner ever asked, it was officially a 'walking stick' and somethin' for pinnin' them rattlers down with till I could cut their heads off!  Yeah, yeah, that's the story!
