.44 magnum Rossi rifle
« on: May 02, 2009, 09:54:20 AM »
Last year I bought a .223 Rossi rifle asnd was quite pleased with it.Eventually I let a friend have it for his son.I wanted a single shot rifle to shoot .44 magnum reloads in so I bought a Rossi. The Model R44UMB I received at my dealers was a black synthetic stocked model with already mounted scope mount as well as having open sights.Notice I say "open" sights rather than "iron" sights. The sights which come on a Rossi are to say the least crappy plastic.Doesn't matter though becasue I mounted a Weaver K4 and have no intentions of using the sights.
My first trip to the range I took some factory loads as well as some reloads.I first zeroed the scope with factory loads.Took about six shots at 25 yards.Very consistent shooting with absolutely no vertical stringing as the barrel got hot. After zeroing I shot six shots which touched each other. Then I moved to 100 yards and had to make a small vertical adjustment. After that I got a decent group of about 2 inches or so.
As time goes on and I become more familiar with the rifle and perfect my handloads for it I am sure it will do just what I wish it to.
As it now stands I am very satisfied with the rifle.

I have not seen a rossi in 44 mag , but the sights in plastic would probably make me not like it. Since you're using a scope anyway, what the heck. Did you take the plastic off? I would think it wouldn't last long unless you babied it.  Sounds like a shooter to me! I'll look for one when I get out next time!

You're right about the factory Rossi sights - about the poorest excuse for sights I've ever seen!

I bought a .357 Rossi about 8 years ago and it's been a good shooter and a lot of fun.  Replaced the sights with a WGRS (T/C Contender model) and a ramp/bead front.  I now have an old Weaver K3 on it - the sights on all my open-sighted guns seem to be getting fuzzy for some reason!!

My second range trip convinces me that this .44 magnum rifle is a really good shooter.
I loaded some 300 grain bullets and the little rifle really seems to like these better than the 240 grain loads I shot the first trip. What a neat light accurate rifle!
