Savage Model 25

Hello, Being a new memeber with a fairly new rifle, I was wondering if anyone else has had any experience with this model. I bought my rifle at the begining of last summer. So far I have only shot factory loads in this rifle. The 65gr so far have produced the best groups. This rifle came with the 1&9 rifle twist. In the past few months, I have been trying to get set up to learn reloading. Unfortunatley my wife has been very ill, she had a stroke last august. This is the reason I have not had time to do much experimenting with this rifle. I am her sole keeper, I have to do almost everything for her now. By the way the rifle caliber is 223 Rem. Any help/advice will be appreciated. Thanks Ray

i have had great luck with up to 75 g bullets in my 1in9 .223. it's a model 200 though. but that twist rate is able to handle lots of different bullets. i think it's very good what you do for your wife. God bless

351 Power, I appreciate your reply. I was starting to think I wasn't going to get a response. In the few times I have got to shoot this rifle, I started with some 55gr that I already had. They shot OK. Then I was able to shoot some 62gr, I couldn't get a good group because of the wind that day. At one of the gun shows I picked up a box of 68gr, but I have not had a chance to shoot them yet. I guess I didnt get alot of response becqause this is a fairly new model. I just found your thread because I am thinking about one of these in .223 and I do want the fast twist.  I have one in .204 Ruger which I really like.  I can shoot MOA groups with it and it can shoot better than I can; my oldest son has turned in a group of 5/8" at 200 yards with it.  I just got all the stuff I need to do some reloading so I can afford to shoot it more.  I think it is a great rifle for the money.  I hope yours has lived up to expectations.

Gentlemen, sorry for being so long to get back to you. Things have been very busy for me. I barely have time for anything. Being able to spend alittle time on the computer, and visit this website helps. I would like to say Thanks for the kind words, they meen alot to me. My Savage in 223, although with limited range time, I think this rifle is capable of being a great rifle. This is my 3rd Savage. I have two older models, one is in 30-06 and the other is a 243. In the years I have had the 243, many Georgia deer have fallen to this rifle. I hope soon to have a new range report from the model 25. I have 4 different factory loads to try. Wish me Luck. One more thing, I was able to buy my first front rest for the range. It's the Caldwell BR rest. A little expensive, but I wanted to get the most decent rest I can afford at the time.....It should help with my groups....Ray

My model 25 shoots .4 @100 yards with the 55 grain hornady v-max bullet, 18.2 grains of imr4198 a cci primer.  Great fun gun to shoot.  This load is from the hornady seventh edition.  Good luck and good shooting.
