Savage 99 Identification Help
« on: May 01, 2009, 04:56:55 AM »
Hello - I'm new to the forum, and I have been reading some of the information on 99's.  I am needing some help identifying my 99.  It has a steel (not brass) counter.  The oval on the lever boss has a "J" in it.  I can't make out the other two characters inside the oval.  The serial number is 699XXX.  The caliber is 300 Savage.  I have attached some pictures.  Your help will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.
Sincerely,
-Jim Glenn-

You have a Model 99-R solid frame, made in 1958.

The sling swivels are issue, but the rubber bumper is aftermarket.

Those extra holes in the top of the receiver don't look factory to me. Better put a scope on that or plug the holes and enjoy the rifle.
