More great luck........

Went to fit a used 45-70 barrel today - put it on and it locked right up.  Smoked the shelf and the engagement was perfect.  No work required.

At this point I have fitted 5 barrels on to two frames with nothing more than a very minor amount of shelf honing required.  Not only that, the two frames are so close that the barrels interchange with no problem.

Needless to say, I couldn't be happier!  ;D

You are on a roll!! I had a barrel about a year ago that locked up on an existing frame perfectly but recently I had to fit a barrel. Fortunately this one wouldn't close so all I had to do was file some on the pivot point and work the latch shelf a little. Actually it was a fun and rewarding project. Eventually I will probably have to fit one where I must add a shim to the pivot point. That sounds a little more challenging than the one I just did. But I am now confident I can do it. I'm voting 3rd party in this election by writing in Jesus Christ for president.  Sadly even if this were an option most of you would still vote Republican because "It's a two party system."
