5mm question
« on: April 23, 2009, 05:16:59 AM »
Can anyone tell me what the bore and twist is on a typical 5mm? Is this something they have barrel blanks available for?

They are .204 bore, I have seen some blanks on auction arms and made up a H&R rifle in 5mm RFM just for  fun.  They are kind of high pressure for a rf so you have to perfectly and completely support the case and rim with the action and chamer.  I chambered the barrel with the ejector in it to get a perfect fit.  Larry

I would wait a while be fore I bought one. It is an excellant round, far better than a .22 mag., but I heard the the new imported ammo is not very accurate. Keep your ears open and if the ammo gets better then pick one up.

I hear their loadings have improved, and the bbl on the auction site looks interesting; low price.  Too bad I can't view the registration page with only two days left before the auction closes. Que ce ROT ce ROT !      I would really like to put this on a single-shot for fun.  Even a liner might make sense, but the rf liners only go up to .22 mag, and the cf only down to .25. Maybe waiting a while will see the loadings continue to improve, the popularity increase, and options become more available. (For as little effort as it takes, sometimes waiting is a chore.) :(

Can a person have a 22mag rifle relined or a 17HMR bored out to shot the 5mm?

Brownells' doesn't list any liners for that cal. But it might be feasable if you could find one. Other factors come into play like firing pin alignment, etc.
