New 30-30- Finally !
« on: April 18, 2009, 12:55:39 PM »
I just got home from Kittery Trading Post in Maine with my NIB Handi 30-30 win. I've been looking for one for about 6 months and am very happy to have one with plenty of time to shoot before hunting season. Interestingly enough they have a lifesize mount of a big bull moose that was shot by a 13 yr old girl with a Handi-rifle in 30-30 on display in the store. If the 30-30 could down a moose like the one at the store I'm sure it will serve me well for deer and possibly black bear. Jim

There's not a black bear or moose on the planet that won't drop to a 30-30! More Maine blackies and swamp donkeys have fallen to the 30-30 than any other caliber.
You made a great choice of caliber, there's a reason it has been around over 100 years ;)

I don't own a .30-30 Handi, mainly because we have two .30-30 Marlin leverguns.  Everyone here rates them among the best of the Handis, and I'm sure you're gonna love yours.  Best of luck with it.  One of these days this cheap Old Fart is going to break down and get one.

Went to U of M, Orono for Forestry and Wildlife Management as a kid.  I do miss Maine hunting and fishing.
