Looking at a 223 that was made in the mid 90's and want to know if they are as good as the later one's. I know I wouldn't be able to send it in for a new barrel but ain't realy interested in that anyway's. How do they shoot and how is the triggers? Thanks for you input.

Tim or CW will know I'm sure!

Sure it's good, it will have a 1:12" twist, any SB2 frame made 1987 or later can have accessory barrels fitted, just not the * marked barrels on any frame made before 1999.  ;)

What weight bullets shoot best in 1:12 barrels. Never had a 223 before and dont know much about them. Thanks Tim for bringing the twist rate to my attention.

Typically 55gr or lighter, but there are some exceptions, bullets that are short for their weight like the 60gr partition, 63gr Sierra Varminter #1370 and the 64gr Win PP, all have been reported to shoot well in the 1:12" barrels. All 223 rifles used to come with a notice on bullet weight and shooting 5.56 Nato ammo.

Thanks again. Wanting a varmint and coyote gun so I dont think the lighter weights should pose a problem.

Morning!!

Thanks for the confidence call out shooter!!  ;D ;)

Currently, I don't have a 1:9 barrel, both of mine are 1:12 and shoot both GREAT!!!  I like the 50-55 gr bullets. I have had some good results with the 62 Gr semi pointed, but by and large the 52/53Gr match bullets combined with a match primer and H322 powder, do what I need with this caliber. This weight will do you proper for the yodel dogs for sure, at least none I have shot have yet to complain or remain upright long enough to do so. ;D

Good luck with yours!!
