buffalo classic sighting problems
« on: April 12, 2009, 12:44:15 PM »
I bought a buffalo classic 45-70 nib a few weeks ago i shot the gun and it shoots to the left i adjusted the rear sight all the way to the right to the point of almost off the base the gun still hit a little to the left. the front sight looks centered on the barrel.was wondering if it is possible to get a bent barrel from the factory. has anyone had the same problem? i was shooting hornady leverevolution 325gr ammo. wondering if i should send it back or is there something im missing.

You can drift adjust your front sight that will take care of that for you. 8)

DITTO!!! I agree with Bob.

Usually all that's required is what you have done.. adjust the rear site. Something is amiss with yours and adjustment of the front site is required. If you find its way out of center, you may want to return it to the factory as this is not right.

I had the same problem with my BC purchased in December.  Had to move the rear sight to the right so much that it is protruding off of the base to the right, and had to raise it extremely high to zero at 100 yds with the Hornady ammo.  On checking I see that my BC also has the .594 front sight which is probably responsible for all the rear elevation required.  The front sight appears to be centered on the barrel.
Doesn't seem right that the sights are so far off of center.

I'm having the same problem with my BC purchased last summer.

I recently had a Lyman 17AUG (.584) sight put on it.  It now shoots too high but still to the left, even with max adjustment of the rear sight.

I've ordered (on backorder) a Lyman 17AML (.494) which should be OK for the distance I shoot (63 y/o eyes).  After that's put on and again bore-sighted, if it's still shooting to the left, I'm sending it back also.

NOTE:  When visiting the H&R Repair webpage, I noticed that there's now a link at the bottom to track your repair.

That's what I'm talking about, it works for accessory barrel orders too!!  ;D

Just an update on ordering accessory barrels, H&R will email you a repair number approx 10 days after they receive your frame,  you can plug that number into their website to see what the status is. So be sure an include an email addy on the order form, or you'll have to call and get the repair number later.  The status page will also be on the H&R website sometime soon....hopefully.
