Ruger Stainless Bisley 45LC/45ACP
« on: April 11, 2009, 06:43:47 PM »
I can get a good deal on a Ruger Stainless Bisley 45LC/ACPcyl. I really don't need it, I have a fine 4"629 & A Contender & soon to get SRH44Mag. I feel with the Cont. or SRH I can kill anything in NA, but it occured to me that it would be nice to have the Bisley & hunt with a stiff 300-325WFN load from Nov-Jan. & from Feb-Sept use the ACP cyl with a light semiwadcutter for targets, plinking, Armadillo's & such.

What is your opinion of this conv., I appreciate your opinions.

I got my son a blued combo and it's a great shooter,  The ACP cylinder is great for plinking as there's alot more brass available than LC brass.  I reload for him and have hundreds of ACP's ready, but only about 150 total for the LC as that brass is from bought ammo.  The ACP is much cheaper ammo to and is a light recoiling bullet in the Blackhawk.  They shoot to a different point of aim, but once you know the difference, it's easy to compensate without changing sights.  If I find another at a good price, I'll definitely jump on it for me.

Not exactly a common model by any means so if you find one t a good price and have slight interest, get it.  I've got at 7 of these stainless Bisleys and the the 45 is the shooter of the group.  Also happens to be my favorite revolver of many sitting down stairs.

I have one of those handguns and like someone else pointed out, it is not very common.  It is actually a limited run item made for Accusport and I bought mine in a local shop about 4 years ago.  I really like the Bisley grip and had been wanting one with something shorter than the 7.5" barrel on my SBH.  I also had been wanting a Ruger in .45 Colt, primarily because its a caliber I did not have yet.  Personally, I had no interest in the 45ACP cylinder.  Great pistol, however if you plan to shoot cast bullets, I would recommend spending the $30 or so dollars and have the guys at cylindersmith.com clean up the throats.

My hunting load consist of a 300 grain Beartooth at 1213 fps.  Accurate, comfortable to shoot in the Bisley and the last hog I shot with this load, I hit in the jaw and even with a complete length-wise shot, it still exited.

If you can get a good deal, you should buy it. I agree with Brian and would have no use for the
ACP cylinder. You can load light .45Colt loads with Trail Boss. The load I have worked up for hunting in the .45 Bisley is the Cast Performance 265WFNGC in front of IMR4227. Mostly though I shoot 200 grain bullets and TB.

I also recommend cylindersmith. If you want to have a really nice trigger - send it to Alan Harton.

Thanks!!

I understand loading the LC light, but I have a couple of coffee cans of ACP brass, thought it might add value to
ownership

Some of us also load for the 45 acp and have plenty of use for the acp cylinder. It certainly can add fun value to the ownership.

Not to take away from using the .45ACP cylinder, but I also have 25's and 625's for ACP - don't have 1911's any more. If you like it - buy it and shoot it.

One nice thing about these is that, if you like to hotrod your .45 Colt loads, you wife will know she can grab ANY .45 acp ammo to shoot out of it, and not get a front sight in the forehead, unless you load those to retard levels.
