Mod 77 Trigger

I traded for a 300 win mag in stainless steel with the skeletonized plastic stock.  It kicks like a bay mule.  I can live with that but that trigger has to be replaced. My smith told me that it is better to replace them than to fiddle with them. Here's my question who make the best value aftermarket trigger that is still a good trigger for the Mark II Mod 77?

am new here but have been lurking for a while.i have a ruger 300mag with the boat paddle stock to.as far as the trigger  i would find me another smith because a good trigger job can be done on the ruger.after the trigger is done right it is one of the best out there. :grin:

I have a Ruger 77V. I put a Timney trigger in it. Mine came preset at 2# and very crisp no creep. I"m very pleased with the results. They can be had for under $75.00.

I gotta agree with halfmoon.  I've had 77 triggers worked over by my smith and they turned out great.  The only Ruger trigger he couldn't get completely to my liking was on a Mini-14 and I've heard there isn't much hope for those.

I have 5 of these rifles and have put Timney triggers in all of them and now no worries. light and crisp trigger pull with no creep. :-D

For $40. my gunsmith did great things to the trigger on my Model77mkII.  I can't believe it's the same rifle.  Jim

I agree that you should consult a new smith.  My son had a trigger job done on his M77MkII and brough it down to a very crisp 3 lbs.  Really made it a pleasure to shoot, and all of my friends are always trying to borrow it during hunting season.(He gave the gun to me when he moved to CA).

well my smith charged 25 bones and now i have a nice 3 lb trigger.  smooth, too.   i intended to put a custom trigger in it and he talked me out of it.    after he was done, i took it apart and man let me tell ya it is an easy rifle to do a trigger job on.   i will be doing all my freinds m77's in the future.

I don't mean to be a party pooper, but realize you are opening yourself to liability here.   If one of those guns were to AD and hurt someone, you could be in deep doo doo.

I have two m77  and one has a tinney and the other was done by a smith. both are great now at 3 lbs.
