I bought an older ejector model Superlite barrel and picked it up at the post office today. It is in as new condition, actually it could be new. I took it out to my back yard range to shoot it. I had run a dry patch down the barrel to get the dust out of it but didn't degrease the chamber. My second shot using Winchester's 45 grain load stuck the case. Had to go get a cleaning rod and knock it out, then I degreased the chamber with carb cleaner. The Winchester load flattened primers in both the Handi and my Contender pistol so I switched to Remington 55 grain FMJ. Took about ten shots to get is sort of sighted in, by the way I like the old style rear sight, and shot the remaining ten shots into 2 inches or so which is about what I can do with iron sights. I loaded the brass with 26.0 grains of AA2520 under a 60 grain Hornady HP seated out way past the cannelure fired with a CCI 450 magnum primer. I fine tuned my sight in for this load and started shooting 3 shot groups ( blem bullets from Midsouth long ago) with about a minute between shots. This load didn't seem to warm the barrel like the factory load did and it also seemed to shoot some better. I got two 3 shot groups that were almost touching at 50 yards. I'm 52 so I figure this was pure luck but it is a good sign. The barrel fit my frame perfectly as it came as did the forearm which I fitted to my 44 magnum barrel. I held the forearm in my hand instead of resting it on the sandbag, I had no problems with stringing at all. Excluding the first sight in shots I could have surrounded 35 shots in a circle less than 2 1/2 inches round. It was really windy at times so I figure I was doing pretty good. I am buying a monte carlo stock and a 30-06 barrel, When the stock gets here I'll scope the 223 barrel and see how well it does then and also test the 30-06 barrel scoped.
