Andy I think OR-E-GUN Bill had a post about that a while back IIRC could be wrong though. Kurt

It's in the FAQs in the MORE HANDI INFO section, ½-28 IIRC.

Dang it! Now I have to go double check...

I had measured my .270 Ultra Comp and came up with 9/16" - 32 TPI

Back to get the screw pitch gauge out and make sure.

Will be back in a few.

Thanks Bill, My 30-06 Ultra Comp is not 1/2x28. I mic'ed it out and it is 9/16 and the threads do look finer than a 28 pitch. I do believe you may be correct at 9/16x32. I am interested in what you find out. I tried a different muzzle device on it which is threaded at 1/2x28 and of course it was a no-go....<><....:)

Now I'm baffled to why the link was made for the thread protectors in the FAQs, I thought it was dk17hmr who posted about them at EGW, but they don't offer a 9/16-32 and the search didn't find a related post on it.  ???

1/2x28 is the standard thread size for a .223 AR15 and perhaps the error was just that, an error. Tim if you still have a threaded H&R barrel would you be able to check it for us, as well as anyone else that has that ability? If those members could post thier results here it would help us get the correct info. It would have been very easy to turn down and rethread a 9/16x32 muzzle to the more common 1/2x28, of course in a .30 caliber that would leave less "meat" at the end of the barrel. However I am sure 1/2x28 taps and dies are more common that 9/16x32....<><....:)

Thanks to any and all for thier help in this....

Just so nobody thinks I'm using an old yardstick to measure the threads, I just happen to have one of these little guys in my toolbox:

just as some added info, the barrel and muzzle break on AR10's (.308 caliber), are threaded 5/8 x 24. It has always been my belief that the .308 AR10 was threaded @ 5/8" to leave more barrel thickness at the muzzle....<><....:)
