300 Mag / 7MM
« on: September 08, 2003, 03:35:43 PM »
I am considering buying 2 new hunting rifles, and have been considering a 7MM semi auto and 300 Mag ( not ultra ) .  I am inclined to believe that this combo would cover most any varmint and big game hunting in North America.

Any opinions or advice???

dbOnIce,
My one remark to the choice of both the 7MM and the 300 Mag would be that they may be close enough in performance that one rifle would do in either caliber. A hunting buddy had one of the Browning semi-autos in, I believe, 300 Win. Mag. This was 20 years ago, but I am sure Browning still offers the rifle in the magnum chamberings. It was a nice looking firearm, and it did not seem to recoil much more that the Winchester Mod 70 in .30-06 I was shooting. He liked the rifle and it accounted for a few Maine deer. In the 4 years we hunted together the rifle never gave him any problems, and it functioned in rain, snow, warm and cold.
