I have a Shiloh 1874 Sharps, I've had a C. Sharps 1875 sharps... Both are really great rifles.

If you want to know what I prefer, I prefer a Winchester 1885 High Wall, of which I have several...!

I have eight of the Winchester/Browning/Miroku high walls. And, I have four of the Wichester/Browning/Miroku Low Walls.

I have several Shiloh and C. Sharps rifles and they are great shooters all.  Shiloh makes primarily the Model 1874 Sharps rifle.  C. Sharps makes the 1874, 1875 and the 1885 high walls.  I have several of each except only one C. Sharps 1874 rifle.  Both companies make premium rifles.  the Shiloh rifles are in every way custom gun quality.  My two rifles are superb in wood to metal fit and finish.  They also shoot better than I can hold.  The C. Sharps 1874 is in every way as nice as the Shiloh's.  The 1875 model is a little more plain jane as I bought the cheapest versions when I got them.  They shoot extremely well and my 45-70 business rifle is my most shot 45-70 (They don't make this model anymore under that name).  As for the High walls they are among the best I have seen for new made ones.

I think it is a matter of whether the options you want are available form one company or another and the wait time (both companies have been known to have long ones). Other than the fact that I think Shiloh has the legal license to claim their Quigley model is the "original" I've always kinda thought the two companies were even.

Kind of like the Chevy vs Ford thing.
Dodge owners may not agree, but they are both good products.

I have visited both C Sharps & Shiloh Sharps, nice folks. You can throw a rock from the front door of one factory and hit the other.
If you are looking for new, call both companies to see what their turn around time will be. They may even have a completed one in their rack that will suit you.

Shiloh is made 100% by Shiloh, C Sharps uses receivers made by Smith and barrels by some else. I allways thought the later post "old reliable" marked Shilohs were better guns.

They are both 100% American as I understand... Shiloh are excellent rifles set up with their own match proven barrels and everything made in house... C Sharps are excellent rifles, set up with match proven Badger barrels and parts/accessories they don`t make are sourced from well respected manufacturers. You use to be able to buy [maybe still can] the '74 action from C Sharps, which lent it to be built by yourself or your favoured gunsmith. [Shiloh only sell complete rifles.] I wanted to go this route when building a rifle with Native Australian Timber stocks and an extra heavy Green Mountain barrel. Import restrictions tho not totally impossible, did prevented me from taking that path at the time. So I built a rifle locally... However I would still like to build a '74 myself, very much... The ideal situation would be to give them both a call and take a visit to their shops. I know people with rifles from either/both companies and they are extremely happy... So, I can`t see how you could go wrong with either manufacturer... 2 excellent products! Good luck!

cheers,

Cam....

ps: if you do have more than a few pennies saved, the Axtel '77 Sharps, now there's a nice rifle and none to common too!!!
