Hi 12,

I have one....it's  RUGER 77/17.  Has a 12x leupold fixed power scope and shoots 1-1.5" at 100yards.  The bullet id very lite and the wind makes a lot of difference.  Some may have more accurate rifles.  Oh, and a timney sear.  GL.

I have a CZ American in both 22LR, and 17 HMR...

They really work great.

If you buy a CZ, buy the scope rings at the same time.

I had a Ruger 77/17 and would recommend it from my experience.  It shot around 3/4" @ 100 yd,. with the Hornady 17 gr.  I currently have a Contender Carbine with a .17HMR barrel and it shoots just as well and has the capability for extra barrels, of which I have a .22 Hornet and .30-30.  I recommend the T/C also.

I too have a 17 hmr on a Contender frame.  I had an old Contender handgun in .44 mag that I really wasn't doing anything with so I put a hummer together for my daughter.....she has yet to pry it away from me...  hehehe.  It shoots amazing, and you can switch barrels as mentioned earlier.  There is a good forum called 17hmr.net, plenty of opinions over there.  I don't think you can go wrong with anything in the 17, it's a blast to shoot.

I only have experience with one .17 HMR so I can't say its better than other brands but I have had no problems with my Savage. It is a real tac driver and has never jambed on me.
If its worth doing, Its worth doing right!

I also have a Savage model 93 with a "Bull" barrel. I resisted the .17HMR for several years believing it would never sell. Boy was I wrong! It is very accurate and no more wind sensitive than a .22Mag because of its increased velocity down range. I've never shot any small game over 125 yards, but it does a job on squirrels and prairie dogs. Mine wears a 3X9 "Dawn to Dusk" Bushnell scope.

I own a heavy barrel Savage, (not sure the model number). It was a "package deal". With the Accu-Trigger turned down as low as possible, and the lousy package scope, I have had one shot kills on groundhogs out to 120 yards. I would not shoot farther than that, but other s may.  The terminal performance is eons better than my .22 Mag, and MUCH more accurate.  I like the little round for keeping pests (like groundhogs and red squirrels) out of my property and food plots.  It is great for more populated areas than I would shoot my .223 or 22-250.

What I could not believe was that I am getting exit wounds on groundhogs out to about 90 yards. Yes, the wind does have its way with this little bullet, but inside 120 yards or so it is a tack-driver.  Last year, I was sitting on the back porch, and overlooking a food plot. I saw a groundhog stand up at 100 yards (laser-ranged).  I had a good rest, and not sure how far the bullet would drop, I lined up the corsshairs right between the eyes. I found that hog DOA at 100 yards, hit squarely between the eyes.

I gotta admit, I am a .17 HMR fan, and that cheap little Savage does everything that I could ask, and more, for a great price.

I have the C/Z 453 Varminter in .22lr .. I had a terrible time finding rings for that thing. I ended up with Leupold . I dont remember for sure if they are tall or med,, I think I had to go with tall. It has a Leupold 4x12x40 AO on it.. I havent got it shot in yet. My best shooter so far is a H&R handi .22 mag. It has shot 1/4 inch groups at 50 yds  . Drop

I have a Savage 93 that does everything I need it to do. Very accurate and I really like the accu trigger. You will get mixed reviews on the accu trigger, some people love 'em and some people hate 'em. Savage rifles have never let me down and they are fairly inexpensive.

If your good enough for first round kills get a NEF/H&R
I have a 17 HMR and had an extra barrel fitted in 22 Mag. Gives me a lot of versitility af a very reasonable price. Ammo msy be somewhat expensive but the single shot makes me stress accuracy and keeps my ammo costs in line
Get a good set of detachable mounts and a good scope. With the turn of a screw and switching the scope you will have a lot of versitility
Just some thoughts

The difference in thes stocks is weight and looks.  Get the one that appeals to your eye and you will be very happy when you start squeezing off shots with the Accu-trigger.

I think you will be satisfied with any of the current offerings in the HMR - the size of your budget will be the determiner. If you have the money the CZ's and Rugers are at the top end, Savage and Marlins next with the NEF being the economy model. While you are trying to decide which one I would begin to acquire ammo in several brands - some rifles seem to be picky about the ammo and some shoot all of it equally - which should be the case as most of it is made by same factory with just different color tip. You can get the Marlin or Savage and a Weaver 2x7 rimfire scope for about $400 which is an excellent package to get into the game.

Ask the same question on the NEF forum to get a different viewpoint.
They are inexpensive because they are single shot, If you are good enough to get the job done with one accurate shot a NEF may be for you. They are very accurate also
